The assembly line approach to Valentine’s Day

[I wrote this yesterday and forgot to post …]
I haven’t bought commercial kiddie V-day cards in awhile. I refuse to do it. Their very existence sucks the creativity out of kids and does nothing but promote Assorted Superheros, Bratz, Barbie, SpongeBob or other characters tied to movie/tv/kiddie merchandise.
It’s tough to find non-commercial cards. And so, we make our own.
It’s easy enough if you have the supplies and begin early. We left it a little late this year. Sarah has made her 20. I put out pens and pencil crayons and v-day themed rubber stamps. She stamped a few, but mostly she drew a little individualized picture for each classmate. “He likes dinsours,” she’d say. Or “she likes princesses.” Some of her pictures were as simple as rainbows or trees, another one was of a landscape of a polar scene complete with igloo and a sled dog. I’m not sure what that has to do with V-day, but I’m okay with that. Emma needs to make about the same number. She’s just getting started. I hope I have enough cardstock. :)
