Tomorrow at Ottawa City Hall

Posted by andrea tomkins in: - Westboro

At 9:30 a.m the Planning and Environment Committee (PEC) will be meeting in the Chamberlain Room at City Hall.

I will be there, along with a wonderful group of fellow “heritage do-gooders,” as we have been called (ha – I LOVE IT) to make sure La Maison Jeanne D’Arc is given the heritage status she so rightly deserves.

Also up for discussion, rezoning.

I am excitedly dreading it. I’m not a City planner. I don’t know the lingo. I am not familiar with the politiking. I am just a Regular Person, a work-at-home mom who just happens to live here.

I have been working on my PEC speech for a few days now. It leans on the emotional side, but I won’t make apologies for that. It’s just the kind of person I am.

I am very pleased that we have had the opportunity to speak to so many likeminded neighbors. I am heartened by the fact that they CARE, and they all want Westboro to be the best place it can be.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. Thank you to those who took the time to write emails to our Councillor and to the PEC. I just hope they were able to take the time to read them.

Tomorrow is a critical step in this whole process. It’s our last opportunity to speak out on the issue of this particular development. I don’t even want to think about next steps. If it doesn’t go our way we would consider taking it farther, but I don’t want to talk about that just yet.

I wonder how it’s all going to unfold.

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human offspring: Emma (24) and Sarah (22). During the day I work as a writer at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
