Sunday = snakes and other kinds of green

Posted by andrea tomkins in: - Ottawa for kids|Easy ways to make kids happy|Ottawa|Photography

Sarah had a birthday party to attend on Sunday morning at Ray’s Reptiles, which is a solid 30-minute drive from where we live. We debated whether to drive out there, drop her off, come back home and then drive back to pick her up, but then we decided it would just be easiest if we did something in the area.

R-i-i-ght.

Well, you know what? There isn’t much around there. So we packed up our golf clubs (by OURs I mean Mark and Emma’s) and left.

So while Sarah was going to be hanging out with the likes of this guy:

 Snake

We were going to hit the greens. And by WE I mean Mark and Emma. Although I gave it the ol’ college try as well:

Where did the ball go?

And here is the mini-putt. Sadly, it wasn’t the kind that had revolving miniature ferris wheels, multi-level towers or scary clowns. This was Mini-Golf In Natural Setting. It was pretty, but I shouldn’t have chosen an orange ball, considering much of the area was covered in leaves.

Mini golfing

(If I had money in invest in a business venture I would definitely set up a mini-putt. Sheesh. It’s a license to print money.)

At the end of it all we had a bit of extra time to kill so we drove another km or so down Bank St. to an antique shop. It was great. They had so.much.stuff! Some very cool things too.

Say, if I told you I saw an 8-track player shaped like a giant robot would you believe me?

No? Well check it out:

You still don’t believe me? Well then you’ll just have to go in for the closeup.

Busy morning huh?

But that’s not all! From there we picked up shwarma for lunch and drove to a “nostalgia and collectibles” show at the Nepean Sportsplex where I bought a Czech-made tin wind-up-with-a-key ladybug … the kind that won’t fall off a tabletop, and a vintage pin-back button that has the face of a donkey with “oh brother” written underneath it.

And THEN we spent the rest of day with my in-laws and stayed for dinner.

Phew. Makes me tired just thinking about it.

But now, now we are sorely behind in house/yard work (i.e. late last night Mark and I were in the basement clearing room for pickup of our fridge – and it’s a DISASTER DOWN THERE) and I’m also behind with Halloween prep.

Emma wants to go out as a rock star (no problems there), but Sarah wants to go out as a ghost. I’m not sure how to pull that one off. Please, if you have some suggestions, I need to hear them!

And you’ll never guess what I’m doing tomorrow. I’m participating in the filming of a commercial for a local company that specializes in leather goods. Yikes! Wish me luck. Knowing me I’m either going to break out, or a break a leg – literally – sometime between now and tomorrow.

*sigh*

I’ve always sort of agreed with Mark Twain, who reported said something to the effect that golf is the ruin of an otherwise lovely afternoon’s walk!

Have fun tomorrow!

re: ghost costume – a good makeup job and cobwebs in the hair, perhaps?

That robot!! Where — or where — did you find him? He’s fabulous. Thanks so much for visiting my blog! And, I’m so glad to know about yours’ now, too. Andrea’s pillows are beautiful, aren’t they? And, you’re the one who introduced me through your article. Nice to meet you! /Jennifer
