The legacy of Piper Tomkins

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: dog stuff

Some of you reading this might already know that our dog Piper passed away on February 22. It’s taken me this to gather my thoughts about it, although now that I’m writing this I don’t even know if I’ve fully processed everything, and if I ever will. It’s February 29. It’s a leap year, so […]

Poopin’ and scoopin’

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: dog stuff|Publishing/writing/career stuff

This is not a very glam topic, to be sure, but after I did some research for a blog post about proper pet waste disposal for the terra20 website I knew we had to switch. I picked these baggies up this past weekend and I’m happy with them. (Well, as happy as one can be […]

A wild (puppy) party at Casa Fishbowl

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: dog stuff

Piper turned eight this week and I felt like we had to mark the occasion with something special so I invited two human friends and their dogs over to our house for a wee puppy party. Yes, I did! It was a team effort. The youngest contributed small party hats she bought at the Village […]

How much do you pay for dog dentistry?

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: dog stuff

Guess who had a dental appointment last week? The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human offspring: Emma (24) and Sarah (22). During the day I work as a writer at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
