Bedtime routines for grown ups

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

Why is it considered lame if you go to bed early? If there have ever been young children in your life you probably already have a keen understanding of the importance of going to bed at a reasonable hour. Let’s be frank. When our kids didn’t get enough sleep, they were, ahem, rather hard to […]

update-ish

From time to time I experience a wee identity crisis as it pertains to this blog. Now is that time. What I’m doing here? Who is reading? Why do I keep it up? What’s it all for, anyway? Sigh. I ask myself all these questions and then I talk myself down from the ledge. If you’ve been reading […]

In my previous post I wrote about the second wave and what we’re doing to get ready for it. This past summer I’m sure you heard about the global shortages of inflatable pools, kayaks, and bicycles. I think we’re now looking at shortages of skis, snowshoes, and wool socks as people get ready for a […]

Are you prepared for the second wave?

We cannot control the wind, but we can adjust our sails. This was something that came up in an interview for an article I was writing for work recently and wanted to share it with you because it resonated with me. There are lots of things we can’t control. Every mental health expert I’ve spoken […]

  • Lynn: Bongo Cat is GENIUS. Also: the Ghibli museum is going on my dream travel wish list now.
  • Escaper: This tweet has the correct title. Already tired of this coronavirus...
  • Katie: Thank you for BONGO CAT! I needed that.
  • andrea tomkins: Thank you Jinjer! I'm glad to know you are reading along! :)
  • Jinjer: I read your blog but do so via Feedly so that's why you don't see me as a subscriber and I'm usually in a hurry so I don't comment often, but I do rea
  • andrea tomkins: I am just overwhelmed by the idea of doing a blog export. Most posts I want to keep, but some I don't (eg some contests and giveaways of days gone by)
  • Lynn: So lovely! I have been thinking of doing a post like this - what is life like on a daily basis these days? Where is everyone, and how are they doing?

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human daughters: Emma (20) and Sarah (18). During the day I work as a writer at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
