Things that are making me happy right now

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

Sometimes it helps to focus on good things in our lives. This is especially true when the world seems more than a little crazy. So with that in mind, here’s a short list of things that are making me happy right now. My chives: Chives are a vastly underrated herb, as far as herbs go. […]

I’m not very musical. When I was five or six I got an electronic keyboard for my birthday. It was pretty cool. I could make music! It was PURPLE and portable, and I remember spending hours sprawled out on the living room floor, picking out the notes to Mary Had a Little Lamb and Twinkle Twinkle […]

Unencumbered… for a moment

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

I was feeling squirrely yesterday so I decided to take a walk and drop off some books at a friend’s place. It was a hot and sunny morning and I felt like I was wasting it by staying indoors so I grabbed the bag, put on my flip-flops, and went. I flip-flopped up the street […]

Andrea’s Tuesdays: lunch, coffee, and writing time

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

First, I have to say thank you for your kind comments, emails, and messages concerning my previous post. It helped a lot, so thank you. Dropping our eldest off at university was tough and I was a bit of a mess for awhile there but I am feeling better now. We are slowly readjusting to […]

All the times I’ve cried these last few days

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

I woke up twice this morning. Once, when Mark got up before dawn for a golf game. I was having a dream about our basement flooding. I eventually fell back asleep, only to wake at nine, which is late for me. I made myself a coffee and mindlessly consumed half of it before I realized […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (18) and Sarah (16). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.

If you'd like to contact me, please use this form. If you're so inclined, you can read more about me here. Thank you for visiting!
