Easiest flu shot ever?

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

Is it just me, or is getting your flu shot is a heck of a lot easier now that you can get it done at your local pharmacy? No more calling and booking appointments, no more driving to the doctor’s, no more bad music in the waiting room. All I need to do is walk […]

I’ve written a lot about habits in past blog posts. Some of you already know that I have a small collection of daily habits that I’ve tweaked over time. I know what works for me. I know they work because if I drop the ball, I feel it. My daily routines include a 30-45 minute […]

Ordinary days

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

Our Sunday began with a couple of hours spent raking leaves and cleaning up the exterior here at Casa Fishbowl. Also, Mark put away the lawn furniture last weekend but had to pull it all out again to get to the Christmas lights, which of course, were at the very back of the shed. I […]

A Halloween question

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life|parenting

There are a lot of conversations about Halloween happening in the Interwebs right now, especially as it pertains to age: how old is too old etc. For the record, I have no problem giving candy to teenagers. I figure if they want to be a kid a little while longer, it’s ok in my books. […]

Lighting up grey days again

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

It’s almost like clockwork now, this feeling that sets in this time of year. And the beauty of blogging is that there’s actual proof that I can review: October 25, 2017 – missing mojo October 28, 2015 – Mojo October 28, 2014 – Litebook revisited As you see, I used the word mojo in two […]

  • Claudette: The Globe article on the meal kit...it's interesting that no where does it mention that the convenience often, for many families, is directly related
  • Amy: I always make the bed, partly because my mom was a stickler for it growing up and partly because I make it easy to do. I have to have the sheets tuck

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark. We have two daughters: Emma (19) and Sarah (17). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
