January 2

How did you ring in the New Year? The four of us (plus one boyfriend) went to an afternoon showing of The Last Jedi. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to seeing it again. (Can I take a moment to share my appreciation for the recliners at the Cineplex? Let’s hear it for […]

Christmas 2017 recap

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

How was your Christmas? I have to say, ours has been pretty low key, but I don’t mind. In past years we’ve gone to Tremblant and Chateau Montebello. This year, the eldest came home from school and we stayed closer to home. As much as I like to travel over the holidays, it’s also very […]

Close to home

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

I’m trying very hard not to let the news about the most recent shakeup in the media industry get me down, but it is disheartening, to say the least. Did you know this was one of the largest mass closures of newspapers in Canada’s history? As for myself, I continue to chug along at the […]

Speaking of gifts… did your parents send you care packages while you were away at college or university? In my post about life with one less kid around the house I mentioned that I have found a tiny bit solace in sending care packages to the eldest while she’s away at university. I thought it might […]

missing mojo

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life

Yesterday was my day off. Remember Andrea’s Tuesdays? But once again, instead of getting out and actually Doing Something I just stayed home and moped around for most of the day. I hate wasting a day. I hate this. I hate the feeling of lost mojo so much. My solution to this is to force myself […]

  • Liz Dick: Just came across this forum now. Funny after all these years I've never seen it. Rummoli has been a family favourite of ours for four generations.
  • Molly: A great read, Andrea! I have been to a few estate sales - they can be fascinating. I am far from a minimalist but I am always trimming the amount

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (18) and Sarah (16). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.

If you'd like to contact me, please use this form. If you're so inclined, you can read more about me here. Thank you for visiting!
