Lunch at Don’s Fish & Chips in Brockville

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Recipes and Food

In my previous post I wrote about our visit to the Brockville Aquatarium. It was just past noon and we were ready to eat. Thankfully, I had a plan, and it was Don’s Fish and Chips. It’s only a few blocks away from the Aquatarium, so it didn’t take long to get there. Thankfully we […]

After 13 years of car camping, we’ve pretty much nailed down our daily routine. It’s almost always the same. Wake up, eat breakfast, go for a hike, eat lunch, enjoy some beach time, eat dinner, sit around the campfire, go to bed. Of course, in between those things there are camp chores that need to […]

When leftovers come together LIKE MAGIC

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Recipes and Food

Don’t you love it when you clean out the fridge and the resulting food comes together in one dish so beautifully you can’t help but think you ARE WINNING THE KITCHEN WARS? Well, this happened the other day, and I can’t stop thinking about it and high-fiving myself: Here’s what happened. I bought a couple […]

Road trip to Beau’s Brewery

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Ottawa|Recipes and Food|travel talk

What’s your go-to beer? We have a few in rotation here at Casa Fishbowl and one of those is Beau’s Lug Tread. So when I received an invitation* to check out the Beau’s brewery in Vankleek Hill my answer had to be a resounding YES. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for awhile and the timing […]

Reframing treats

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Recipes and Food

Although I don’t like to use the word diet, sometimes it’s the only way to describe the actions that follow when someone realizes her pants are a little snug and she’s feeling kinda bloated and yucky. It means that it’s time pull back on a few things for a little while, so if we need […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (17) and Sarah (15). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times, and a regular contributor to MediaSmarts.ca. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.

The #dailylunches project – 1000 lunches and counting

Every day I eat lunch and take a picture. Here's the latest:

Created with flickr badge.

Click the photo for details: what it is, where I ate it (if it's worth a mention!) and how to cook it (if there happens to be a recipe). You can also read more about this project right here.
