I eat a boiled egg at around 10 a.m. every weekday morning. I’ve done this often enough now that I’ve learned a few valuable lessons. I wanted to share with you today, not just about the process of boiling eggs, but about myself. My daily egg might seem like an odd snacking habit but… 1 […]

March 2018 = The Whole 30

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Recipes and Food

As many of you regular readers know, I like food. Scratch that, I love GOOD food and it may even be that I like food more than most people out there. I like food, a lot. That being said: I don’t like Oreos, but I love freshly baked oatmeal raisin cookies. I don’t like ordinary sliced […]

About that turkey dinner

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Recipes and Food

I wanted to take a moment to address this tweet of mine in greater detail because it seemed to generate a bit of excitement out there. HOLY MOLY. The @FarmBoy turkey dinner comes in a huuuuge box. It filled up the trunk of our car. Piper finds it all very interesting! pic.twitter.com/6qlsTasqeW — andrea tomkins (@missfish) […]

FOOD. Is it the best Christmas gift?

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Oh! Things!

I have a very long story to share in the New Year about a special challenge my family has undertaken this past year. For now, I will say this: Mark and I aren’t exchanging Christmas gifts this year and we have laid out some criteria as it pertains to our stockings. The criteria is this: […]

  • Luis: Never buy a Maytag appliance I have had mine for two years now and the washer and dry suck. Washer leaves soap on clothing and dry doesn’t dry.

  • andrea tomkins: Hmmm. Perhaps I didn't use the right term in my post? They're inflatable pool floats, but they are a mattress shape, if you know what I mean! I amende

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human daughters: Emma (20) and Sarah (18). During the day I work as a writer at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
