A little tour of the things I love: third stop

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Oh! Things!|Photography

I think the bookshelf upon which our little teacupnests are perched deserves a full stop on this tour.

the bookshelf in the living room

I like looking at other people’s books. A bookshelf is a serious peek into a person’s soul, don’t you think?

This is an old teak shelf, given to me by my mother. When our living room was redone it got painted white, along with its sister shelf which is on the right side of the window (this one is on the left).

I insisted these shelves be painted, despite the fact you’re not really supposed to paint teak. Our home is so dark, I wanted to lighten and brighten anything I could.

We actually had four bookshelves in the living room, but the designers told us two had to go. The remaining shelves are packed with our favourite books and a few favourite things.

My books make me very happy. I can’t imagine a home without books.

I love pictures of other people’s bookshelves. Love the radio, too!

I think I used to have a quote somewhere about home is really where you keep your books.

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human daughters: Emma (20) and Sarah (18). During the day I work as a writer at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
