Giveaway alert: Love your Body… a yoga workshop for the urban goddess!

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Fishbowl patrons|Giveaways and product reviews

Oh my pretties.

Why is so hard to love ourselves sometimes? Why is it so much easier to find fault and hate ourselves? Is it because it’s easier to think: I HATE MY JIGGLY BITS as opposed to I ACCEPT THE WAY I AM, JIGGLY BITS AND ALL. Why not do something for ourselves, out of love, to help make us healthy and strong (and as a happy by-product, decrease the severity of the aforementioned jiggly bits)? Wouldn’t life be so much better that way?

I am happy to tell you that the Elation Centre (a Fishbowl patron) is hosting a Love Your Body Workshop on Friday February 11, 2011 … just in time for Valentine’s Day. Love love love. And it’s just for you, to help encourage healthy changes via LOVE AVENUE and not Hatred or Self-Loathing Street. That’s a nasty old street. Don’t go there.

You can read up on the workshop here, but allow me to highlight a few things:

  • There will be chocolate!
  • You don’t need to be a yoga expert to attend. Heck, you don’t even need to be fit or flexible! All you need to do is bring some comfy clothes and a willingness to learn something new with a great group of likeminded women in a very non-intimidating environment. I have met Donna and Sylvie in person and they are both very real, very friendly and knowledgeable, very open and very very nice.
  • I will add that yoga is pretty awesome. Have you tried it before? It is deeply relaxing and it’s the kind of skill that you can take anywhere, forever, once you learn. :)

I will be attending this workshop because I AM AN URBAN GODDESS. (Ha.)

Elation is giving away one spot at the Love Your Body Yoga Workshop to one lucky (Ottawa-area!) woman.

The deets:

  • The class is on Friday, February 11 at 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Please make sure you’re able to attend before you enter!
  • You should live in the Ottawa area, or know someone who does, because the (one) winner will have to find their way to the Elation studio. (They’re located at Suite 201, 360 Kirkwood Avenue North across the street from the Real Canadian Superstore in Westboro.)
  • For your entry to qualify you must tell me – using the comments below – what you love about yourself. This is a must!
  • One entry per person please! We want lots of people to have the opportunity to win.
  • I will do a random draw of all qualifying entries using Random.org at noon EST on Wednesday February 2, 2011. Please make sure you leave a valid email address, because you can’t win if I can’t reach you.

Sound good? Thank you to Elation Centre for hosting such a fantastic giveaway!

Soooo. Who wants to join me for yoga and chocolate? :)

The thing I love about myself has to be divided into two: physical and a trait. Physically, I love my blue eyes, I get comments all the time as to how piercing and stunning they are.

I also like the fact that I work hard at everything I do, and am willing to give anything that’s not immoral or illegal a try. It’s what gave me the drive to earn my black belt in karate.

I love that I can kick ass in the swimming pool – and the muscles that go along with it. Swimming makes me feel strong.

Hi Andrea, don’t enter me in your contest. I love myself so much I am going away that same weekend. But if I wasn’t boy would I go. It sounds like such a good night. Elation is a great place and Donna and others there do awesome work. I hope you have a great time. I’d love to hear from who ever wins how they liked it.
P.S. I loved my hair today.
P.P.S what do you love about yourself, Andrea?

@Rae: is it possible that your legs are strong in part because of your kids?

I love my butt and my legs. My butt is just the right about of round and both allow me to do so many of the things I love.

Also, my arms. Especially when I am whipping batter by hand.

I’m completely in for yoga and chocolate!

What I love about myself is my sense of humour and my awesome biceps – lol. Being a mom (carrying a child everywhere) makes you super strong. :D

I love all the comments! Andrea thank for offering this wonderful opportunity for women to express what we love about ourselves. Today I’m going to say I love my hips.

Hmm they are not big, in fact they’re not curvy at all and my but is kind of small; no worries – my wonderful hips are strong and they carry me through miles and miles as I run, they tell me when to slow down and take more time in Yoga to look after them. Thank you hips for all the miles, marathons and carrying me through life

Hope to see everyone at our Love Your Body Workshop – your Valentine’s gift to You!

I don’t love how stiff I have been feeling lately – I need yoga!

Great entries everyone! I love reading what you love about yourselves!

Jennifer: since you asked … I like my sense of adventure and my willingness to try new things. I also like my height. I didn’t like it very much as a kid, but I do love being tall!

What a lovely giveaway Andrea!

What do I love about myself? Tough question, there is the physical and the non-physical. I think I will share that I love that I have a “Golden Heart” as one of my closest friends call it. I think with my heart first trying to find the best in everyone. Which of course means I get disappointed once in a while, but that is life.

I think I’m a very positive person and do a good job of seeing the glass half-full.

I would love a night out sans the baby. It would be one of my first!

Sorry, hit post too soon,

I love my resilience. We are being posted yet again, which will mean the stress of selling a house under intense time pressure, finding a new one, this time in a new country (in a good school district for my kid) finding ways to get the kid and myself and hubby a community of friends in a hurry, put down roots, get involved, work in the community, and know that we will leave again within a few years and have to do it all over againg.

I love that I have the resilience to keep doing it, and doing it well, despite having had to give up so many personal dreams to be with my husband and son.

I treasure and nurture this resilience.

Hi Andrea,

I won’t enter because I can’t attend that evening but I did want to say that I used to attend Donna’s 5:45 (yes, a.m.!) Powerful Woman Bootcamp, and she’s great. I got a fantastic workout, really improved my flexibility and never felt any pressure to keep up with anyone but myself. She was also very down to earth – important especially at that time of day! And I loved how I felt after exercising that early in the morning!

I love my curly hair – amazing how you can come to love what you disliked as a child! The best of thing about growing up is learning to love yourself for who you are.
I love how important my family and friends are to me and that I always try to make sure they know that they are important!

Hi!
I love how my body has adapted so well to 2 pregnancies and now to 2 young boys. Keeping fit before, during and after pregnancy was a great challenge and one that I welcomed. A positive outlook and hard work can do wonders.
Cheers!
