Ottawa Giveaway alert: Summertime family fun (and fitness)!

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Fishbowl patrons|Giveaways and product reviews

We have a winner!

Yipee! This giveaway is brought to you by Fishbowl patron, the Soloway JCC.

I want to start out by saying that the Soloway JCC is a wonderful place to spend the summer. It is a great facility, and everyone is welcome!

This giveaway is for a two month Family Summer Membership (July & August). Woot! There are more than a couple reasons why this is such a great prize.

1) Think of how this could improve your summer and help your sanity. A family pass would totally alleviate the dreaded “MOM, I’M boooooored!” (My head hurts just thinking about that. Ugh.)

2) Membership includes access to the Fitness Centre, tons of great group fitness classes, squash, racquetball, a gymnasium with basketball nets, plus many classes and programs for children, teens, adults and seniors. Also: did you know that there’s childcare on site? You no longer have an excuse NOT to go to the gym! :)

3) Did you know about the big outdoor swimming pool? It’s fantastic. This is no ordinary splashpad or boring ol’ wading pool. This is a Pool with a Capital P, complete with slide, tables and chairs, lounges, change rooms and shaded areas. It’s a great place to spend a summer afternoon or go for a quick dip. And if that doesn’t float your boat, there’s also a full size indoor saltwater (!!) pool, hot tub, sauna and steam rooms.

(Look at me. I am already coveting the winner’s family membership. *sigh*)

4) Another thing worth noting: members get priority registration and discounts on all classes and programs including the summer camps.

Speaking of summer camps:

  • Summer Camps include Day Camp (for children as young as 2 and up), Traveling Sports Camp (entering grade 2 and up), and 13 Specialty Camps (7-15).
  • Each week of Day Camp offers a unique theme-based activity. Swimming lessons are included.
  • Staff include teachers and early childhood educators. They’re chosen for their experience as well as their ability to work with children. Low counsellor-to-camper ratios ensure everything they do is safe and fun.
  • The Traveling Sports Camp is truly a unique experience as it is the only camp in the city that takes campers on a field trip every day. Traveling Sports Campers spend the morning at the Soloway JCC where they learn about a wide range of sports and have instructional swimming lessons. After lunch they hop on a bus for a different adventure every day. Some of the trips planned for this summer include water parks, horseback riding, ice skating, bowling, go-karting, water skiing, NCC beaches and more. (!)

Doesn’t that sound cool? Apparently there are still some spaces left too. (So you might want to get on that.)

So.  Who wants the Family Summer membership?

Please read carefully, because if your entry doesn’t follow the rules it won’t qualify.

This giveaway is for one (1) Family Summer Membership at the Soloway JCC in Ottawa. (Children must be under 18 and living at the same address as the parents. You can read more about memberships here.)

Here’s what you need to do:

  • In the comments below, tell us:  (1) have been to the JCC before? Also, in order for your entry to qualify you need to (2) take a peek at their fitness programs and tell us, what looks interesting to you? OR, since we are talking about summer fun and the JCC has some great swimming goin’ on, you can tell us what kind of pool personality you are. Are you a lounger? A diver? A wannabe dolphin? Or perhaps you are the type who likes to play Marco Polo with your kids? Tell us how you enjoy time in and around the pool with your family.
  • Let’s keep it fair. One entry per family please!

You have until Friday May 13, 2011 (lucky you!) at noon EST to get your entries in. I will be using random.org to select one winning name and will publish the name of the winner here. Also, double check your email address, ok? You can’t win if I can’t reach you.

Good karma goes to those who share, so please forward this giveaway to friends and neighbors who might be interested. Thank you!

Thank you as well to our friends at the Soloway JCC for providing such an awesome prize! And good luck to you all!

Both of our girls went to a week-long camp at the JCC last summer. It was fabulous from both the children’s and parents’ perspective. We have signed them up again for camps this year.

We would love to go use the pool as a family, and I would love to use the gym to do strength training.

Thanks for the opportunity – we would love to win this!!

I have not been to the JCC – yet. But I have a girlfriend who has been telling me all about the salt-water pool. I can’t wait to go try it out with my bath-adverse baby (and the older water-baby).

My pool-personality would be a splasher – at least at the moment. Or rather, a sitter holding a splasher. What I’m hoping to avoid is a sitter holding a screamer ;)

I have never been to JCC but it sounds fabulous.

I think the weight training for woman course sounds interesting. I’ve always heard that weight training is very important for those of us woman that are north of 35.

I’m a huge fan of the JCC outdoor pool, we’ve been taking our kids for the last 2 summers and my husband swims laps there before work. If we won a summer membership, I’d definitely try the Kettlebells Training and of course use the pool.

I have been to the jcc before, and usually use the gym and the weight room before grabbing a byte at the restaurant. I’ve only had enjoyable expiriences so far, and would love to win this!

I am definitely a splasher. Can’t help getting into those giant splash fights with friends…. :)

I have never been, but I have have only heard great things from my friends who go often :)
I am not much of a swimmer, but my kids are! I guess I tend to be a lounger and organizer – packing all the snacks and drinks and towels and water toys to keep the family enjoying their water play… but I have been known to take a quick dip if it gets too warm on deck! …that salt water pool sounds really neat!

I was a member at JCC a long time ago, before kids. Now I traing mostly at home, and run outside, but we would make great use of the Family pass during the summer, especially the outdoor pool! In terms of pool personnality, with two young kids, I’m a mix between engaged splasher and laid back, when my kids let me!

We spend a lot of time there in the summer at the outdoor pool and even in Sept. after school if the weather is nice. I’d love to try the Korean energy yoga. As for the pool personality, I’m a part-time lounger, part-time get in and play with the kids.

I have never been, but I’m definitely going to have to check it out. My pool personality these days is just trying to keep up with my splashing 15 month old swimming fanatic! Looking forward to the days we can splash together without my worrying so much about her absolute fearlessness in the water.

I love the JCC- have only been on a friend’s guest pass. We’ve never been to the pool, but hear only great things. My pool personality is swim team wannabe with a heavy dose of heads-up breast stroke/side stroke. This would be a great summer activity for the whole family!

I have had the pleasure of using the outdoor pool at the JCC in the summer and I have heard many wonderful things about the indoor facilities. I am really interested in the Kettlebell group training and it’s a toss up for Yoga Therapy for back neck and shoulder care or pilates. Child care for gym time :) Now if only the kids could swim while I worked out.

I have only been to the outdoor pool at the JCC. It is open later in the season than the city pools. I would love to have a chance to try out their indoor facilities. I would like to get back into yoga and get in some more swimming. I like to do laps in the pool but with the kids I usually spend my time chasing them around so we all keep moving.

My niece had her birthday party at the JCC a few months ago and I was so impressed with the facilities – the salt water pool, the weight room (which I just passed by, didn’t actually spend any time in) and the “party” room upstairs. I also thought the staff was super helpful and friendly. And I’ve heard nothing but great things about their outdoor pool!

I used to be a member when I worked in the area and I LOVE the JCC – one of the cleanest facilities and friendly staff. The Kettlebell group training sounds like a great workout and I’m always interested in trying something new.

We might just have to try the outdoor pool this summer!

I have been to the JCC before and am impressed with their fitness programs and love the pool. Yoga is of particular interest! We enjoy the pool with our kids and get right in on the action with them – they have a super kids wading pool which we all enjoy together and the shallow wheelchair entry is also a hit. THanks for the great giveaway!
