Ottawa giveaway alert: date night at the NAC

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Fishbowl patrons|Giveaways and product reviews

We have a winner. Thank you!

Speaking of the NAC, have you heard about the Cirque de la Symphonie?

The NAC is not known for death-defying performances (unless there’s something going on in the orchestra that I don’t know about) but I have two tickets to give away to this thrilling and yes – death-defying – show.

Imagine: aerialists flying high above the orchestra in a gravity-defying ballet, astonishing acrobats, sinewy strongmen, nimble jugglers, virtuosic mimes, and amazing contortionists… all accompanied by “ringmaster” Jack Everly and the NAC Orchestra.

It’s an amazing opportunity to see two worlds colliding (not literally, I hope). You can read more about it here, and I urge you to read this show’s program notes in order to fully appreciate the calibre of the artists who will be performing… which include world record holders, gold-medal winners of international competitions, and Olympians.

You game?

Contest rules and deets

This giveaway includes two tickets to the 8:00 p.m. show of Cirque de la Symphonie on June 16, 2011 and includes two intermission drink tickets as well as a parking pass. It is DATE NIGHT MATERIAL, so call the sitter and get ‘er on standby. (But please do not enter if you aren’t totally sure you can attend. Thank you!)

In order for your entry to qualify you need to:

  • Leave a comment. That’s it. Optional because I’m nosy: what kind of events do you like to attend at the NAC? Do you have a fond memory of a past favourite? I’d love to hear about it.
  • One entry per family please!
  • You have until Wednesday June 15, 2011 at noon EST to get your entries in. I will be using random.org to select one winning name and will publish the name of the winner here. Also, double check your email address, ok? You can’t win if I can’t reach you.
  • Good karma goes to those who share, so please forward this giveaway to friends and neighbors who might be interested. Thank you!

Thank you to our friends at the NAC for these tickets! Good luck to you all!

Ooh, this sounda great! Pre-kid days, Ken and I went to symphonies. now, I take Reid to Family Adventures and Kinderconcerts and Family Series plays. All are good but need grownup time at the NAC.

Sounds like a fun evening. One year we bought tickets for the English Theatre, so I guess I enjoy seeing plays the most. We’ve just bought our first season for the Family Series and are pretty excited.

A night out with the lovely and talented wife would be awesome right now!
Have not been there in ages… last time was for a Christmas event.

We used to get a Pops subscription but we stopped after we realized we weren’t interested in half the concerts. The idea was that we’d go to the ones we thought were interesting but then we never did. No one was sending us an easy way to pick anymore, and you had to wait (by which time I usually had found cheaper alternatives).

There were about six events that I wanted to go to in the last six months, but organizing each one was way too much work. First I have to figure a possible date, then organize a sitter, then convince my husband to go, then arrange for tickets… I think I went to two in the end. All that to say I’d love to go to this one, especially if I could skip the “convince husband” step :)

Our favourite performance was when Roger Whittaker came to town. Was that already a decade ago? Yikes

I’d have to say that the Patricia O’Callaghan show at the Fourth Stage was one of my top favourites. She was witty, fun, entertaining, talented and my age! I really enjoyed how she explained each piece before she performed.

My other top favourite was Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. The soloists were AMAZING and the last soloist made me understand why people say that a violin can “sing.” It was so beauthiful.

Thank you, NAC! Tonight I go to the Ode to Joy. Will let you know.

Last time I went to the NAC (other than for a meal) was to see Barney’s Version, as part of James Moore’s Movies on the Hill series (we won tickets). I like going to see just about anything at the NAC (especially theatre or dance), but this occasion was especially memorable because I lost my husband as we left and in turning around to find him, I smacked into the chest of Mr. Michael Ignatieff, who was very apologetic (even though it was my fault.)

Anyway, we could use a good excuse for a date night, and I’d love to go see Cirque. A good friend of mine went off to circus school and I’ve always admired her talents.

I want those tickets. Pretty please?

The NAC is on my list of Amazing Ottawa Things (AOT) I’ve seen numerous concerts over the years (ballet, dance, rock, pop, classical, jazz, drama in both French and English). We recently brought the kids to see Charlotte et le marchand de musique (which I really liked). Probably the most memorable concert was the super-cool, super-talented Wynton Marsallis. What a treat!

Wow. This sounds awesome!
Ever since I’ve lived in Ottawa I’ve been going to the NAC. I’ve seen all the major Broadway plays that have some, some community theatre, concerts and every December I’m there for Stuart MacLean. It’s a ritual! I’ve even been on that stage myself, with my choir!!!

My partner and I have never been to the NAC together, mainly because we cannot afford it :( I miss the days of student live rush!
I would love to see such an exciting-sounding concert! Perhaps this will encourage similar events to come to the NAC in the future.

Sounds like a great date night :) My husband and I used to subscribe to the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, but we haven’t been to the NAC in a long time. Hope we win!

We are so in need of a date night! My husband and I used to go as students to the NAC b/c they had great last minute deals for students….my favourite memory was of an amazing modern dance performance – made me wish I followed my dream of being a dancer…. This performance sounds amazing.

I have seen very little there but saw Pelagie there a few years ago (one of my favorite books) and it was great.

Thanks for the opportunity – I thought this concert sounded great! Before kids we had season tickets to English Theatre & would treat ourselves regularly to other concerts we thought we’d like to see. Now we go less often – but also take the kids on occasion, which I love!

This sounds like an incredible evening out! We haven’t been to the NAC in a long time. Every year for our anniversary my mom (sweet lady that she is!) gives my husband and I seasons tickets to the GCTC with babysitting thrown in.

This sounds like fun! You have great giveaways! I have been to the NAC many times during my life but my favourite shows there have been by Opera Lyra. Even my teenage son loves those! The most recent I went to was Tommy Tiernan in May – my first live comedy show. I laughed until my face hurt and my sides were sore for a couple of days.

Ouuu Thursday night would be great for us we actually have a sitter and planned for a date night but have yet to decide what to do. We thought maybe drinks on a patio followed by a movie but followed by a show would be even better. Scott and I have never been to a show together, we’ve been seperate, but never together. My favorite would have to be Mama Mia. I went with my mom, aunts, grandmother, and little cousin. We have a lovely girls day and ended it with dinner and a show :)

I have only been in Ottawa for 7 years so I was only able (read financially able) to go the NAC a couple of times (once as a graduate on my graduation!), my favorite was the Sci-Fi Spectacular since we are big geeks!

Wow, what a fabulous show that would be! Is it still a date if I take my daughter? She dances all the time (as you might know, Andrea!) and has done a few workshops on aerial hoops with a circus performer from Cirque du Soleil however we’ve never found the time in our schedule to take her to see a show! Or, maybe Mom and Dad would take the tickets instead and tell her all about it! hmm, what a dilemma that could be! Even better, it’s on our first dance free Thursday since September!

I enjoy watching the broadway across canada shows at the nac… Phantom, Mamma Mia and Wizard of Oz stand out as my favorites :) still waiting for Wicked!

I’ve been to a few of the Broadway Across Canada shows but more recently I went to see the La La La Human Steps performance and was blown away. Those ballerinas being spun around like tops and dancing on point for most of the show were amazing. I’m always blown away by the athleticism of ballerinas when people seem to view them as delicate and feminine.

I haven’t had the opportunity to see too many shows at the NAC in the past few years besides some concerts (like Melissa Etheridge/Serena Ryder, Luke Doucet, Matthew Good, etc). Hoping to see some of the broadway, orchestra and dance shows in the not too distant future though!

I have been to a few Cirque du Soleil shows, and have really enjoyed them all. I would love to take my hubby to see this as he has never had the experience. What a chance to show him how manly the arts can be!
