Ottawa giveaway alert: easy litterless lunches from terra20

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Fishbowl patrons|Giveaways and product reviews

As much as we have enjoyed our summer, I have to admit that we are all getting pretty excited about going back to school here at Casa Fishbowl. The girls are looking forward to seeing their friends and I am looking forward to my old routines again.

I am happy to say that one of the things that doesn’t stress me out so much anymore this time of year is the whole PACKING LUNCHES thing. I can pinpoint how this eventually came about:

1) The girls have been packing their own lunches since they were old enough to wield a butter knife. As long as I have groceries on hand, they know what to make. Also, what helped is a list of lunch ideas stuck to the fridge that THEY help create. This way, no one was stumped in regards to what to make and bring.

2) I got over the fact their lunches weren’t exactly Pinterest-worthy. Heck, if they wanted to eat the same thing every day (ham sandwich, apple, goldfish crackers) that’s fine by me!

3) I discovered a few good lunch containers that suited our needs perfectly (read: no leaking, spilling, lost lids etc.) and the kids were excited about bringing to school (and take care not to lose)!

Sidebar: Getting the kids involved in the decision-making process is always a good idea. Whether you’re discussing goldfish crackers v. rice crackers, or containers with green lids or pink lids, asking your kids what they would like will make them feel more involved and more likely to take ownership of the process.

4) I PUT LABELS ON EVERYTHING. Trust me on this.

I didn’t snap this photo, but these two young ladies wanted to show you what they liked best in terms of lunch gear at terra20 (you know, in case you were looking for ideas):

I’ve never shopped at Terra20 but found so many cute things I would be interested in!

I love the idea of the reusable snack bags instead of using ziplock bags (http://www.terra20.com/colibri-snack-large-rainbw-chv).

I also noticed the stainless steel cutlery sets (http://www.terra20.com/onyx-cutlery-set-ss-silver) which are such a good idea to pack in the lunch box!

I’ve recently discovered your website and I love your articles on local places you have visited – especially your recent article on Kingston Pen! I have already harassed my boyfriend for us to go! :)

August 29th, 2016 at 11:47 am

Large Blue Bicycle Cooler Bag would be my top choice. With sending a water bottle AND a juice/milk to school most days, we find the kids lunch bags we usually have to be a smidge too small.

67 | Shannon

August 29th, 2016 at 1:16 pm

75 | Shawna

August 31st, 2016 at 5:02 pm

I’m looking for longer, thinner sandwich containers for wraps, burritos, and sausages. Maybe one of the Sistema containers would fit the bill…

76 | Amy

80 | Ryan

September 1st, 2016 at 9:16 am

The green bento box would be great for myself.

81 | Vicky

September 1st, 2016 at 10:11 am

I’m keen on stocking up on some Sistema products – smaller snack containers and the cutlery sets. The reusable snack bags have worked OK for me as an adult but stuff often ends up smashed or smushed for the kids, and if you don’t wash them out right away…. let’s just say that they’ve become more disposable than I had initially intended. So the sturdier stuff appeals.

82 | Natalie

September 1st, 2016 at 4:43 pm

The stainless steel container would be perfect for my little guy.

83 | Sarah

September 2nd, 2016 at 1:40 pm

We’ve been using the same reusable snack bags for the past 4 years – they’re getting kind of old and stained. I know my kids would love some new designs with a closure that actually still works!
