The true sign of spring

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Home/reno|Misc. life

I’ve written about composting before but here I am again. I love it so much I just can’t stop. The idea that our old banana peels and coffee grounds makes this rich garden soil is so amazing (and so is the price tag: FREE). I use this compost to fill up all of our containers of […]

I’ve written about my love/hate of backyard gardening before. For the most part, I don’t love gardening. I love it in May and June, when the garden centres open. Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Home/reno

Yesterday I posted a few photos of things that are sprouting around here at Casa Fishbowl. Today I’m thinking a bit beyond that. I’m thinking ahead to the garden. It wasn’t until after I read The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin that I realized that I didn’t like gardening and that I had been fooling myself […]

  • Lynn: Bongo Cat is GENIUS. Also: the Ghibli museum is going on my dream travel wish list now.
  • Escaper: This tweet has the correct title. Already tired of this coronavirus...
  • Katie: Thank you for BONGO CAT! I needed that.
  • andrea tomkins: Thank you Jinjer! I'm glad to know you are reading along! :)

  • andrea tomkins: I am just overwhelmed by the idea of doing a blog export. Most posts I want to keep, but some I don't (eg some contests and giveaways of days gone by)
  • Lynn: So lovely! I have been thinking of doing a post like this - what is life like on a daily basis these days? Where is everyone, and how are they doing?

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human daughters: Emma (20) and Sarah (18). During the day I work as a writer at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
