A Halloween question

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Misc. life|parenting

There are a lot of conversations about Halloween happening in the Interwebs right now, especially as it pertains to age: how old is too old etc. For the record, I have no problem giving candy to teenagers. I figure if they want to be a kid a little while longer, it’s ok in my books. […]

Our two daughters have been employed since they were 14 and I can’t begin to describe how positive of an experience it has been for them. It’s also been great for us, the parents. Their wages contribute quite a bit to our household. It’s not as if they’re handing over their wages, that’s not what […]

What to pack kids for day camp

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: parenting|Publishing/writing/career stuff

This topic MIGHT be far from everyone’s mind at the moment, especially with the provincial elections happening today, but I wanted to plant this seed in your brain before it was too late. The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human daughters: Emma (20) and Sarah (18). During the day I work as a writer at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
