After 13 years of car camping, we’ve pretty much nailed down our daily routine. It’s almost always the same. Wake up, eat breakfast, go for a hike, eat lunch, enjoy some beach time, eat dinner, sit around the campfire, go to bed. Of course, in between those things there are camp chores that need to […]

When leftovers come together LIKE MAGIC

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Recipes and Food

Don’t you love it when you clean out the fridge and the resulting food comes together in one dish so beautifully you can’t help but think you ARE WINNING THE KITCHEN WARS? Well, this happened the other day, and I can’t stop thinking about it and high-fiving myself: Here’s what happened. I bought a couple […]

I posted about a lovely soup we had last week and promised a full review of Zestible, a new service which provides ready-to-cook meals for Ottawa folks. First, I have to confess that I would enjoy dinner time a little more if (a) there were fewer steps involved (read: no shopping or pouring over recipes from […]

This post is sponsored by Loblaws but my opinions about cheese remain my own. Thanks Loblaws! For the past couple of years, I’ve been a bit crazy about setting out cheese boards when company is coming over. The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human offspring: Emma (24) and Sarah (22). During the day I work as a writer at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
