THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

I’ve been running off my feet this week. Worse: not only have I been putting the cereal in the fridge and the juice in the cupboard on a regular basis, but I was just about to prepare dinner when I realized that I MADE IT THE NIGHT BEFORE.

It’s been Deadline City around here, and that probably explains the short circuiting of my short term memory recently. I have an interview this afternoon with a really interesting local designer… an assignment from Ottawa Magazine. I am really looking forward to meeting this person. But I really hope I don’t do something idiotic, like forget my name. Or get lost on the way to our interview. Ha. No. I’m just kidding (Okay, maybe HALF kidding). I am confident in my interviewing abilities, I am. Really! This is something I’ve always loved about the life of a journalist … talking to people I wouldn’t ordinarily get to talk to. And that’s the coolest thing in the world to me.

(Have I ever told you about the guy with the skull? No? I will have to save that one for another post. It was for an assignment I had for my science reporting class when I was at Carleton. My teacher, a person I now consider a friend, gave me some great advice that I have never forgotten.)

After my interview-with-the-designer I am pencilled in for a 30-minute chat with someone from CBC radio. It’s a listener survey – go figure. I can’t imagine what they’re going to ask me about.

It hasn’t all been rush rush rush. Yesterday afternoon I had five minutes of pure bliss. I brought Sarah and a friend of hers to Maplelawn Gardens. I needed to take some photos (for yet another piece I’ve been working on) and the weather was perfect and it made sense to Just Go.

So we did. And I’m glad.

We had the whole place to ourselves. The sun was setting. The warmth of the day was still clinging to us. It was like living in a dream.

Do you know the park I’m talking about? Ever been?

feet in fall

Gotta run. But in the meantime, tell me, what fun plans do you have for this lovely fall weekend?

I get to play “The Times They Are a-changin'” as an opening act, then listen to the wonderful Amy Campbell perform songs from her new CD in my sunroom, joined by about 30 of my friends.

We’ll be up in your neck-of-the-woods, visiting friends in Ottawa (well, really Kanata, but close enough). Hoping to pop into the Mountain Equipment Co-op in Westboro at some point Saturday…if we can squeeze in the time. Oh! And we might go to the Museum of Science and Technology on Sunday morning. Haven’t been there since I was a kid. I think the kids will love the trains.

I’ve talked my sister into coming to play ‘Clean Sweep’ with me so that my house will look much better than it usually does when my husband comes back from 3 months away.

If I were you, I would go to the Vigil 1914-1918 event at the National War Memorial one evening (on til dawn on Tuesday). We went last night and it was very moving and more manageable with little ones than the ceremony on Remembrance Day. I posted some pics on my blog or you can see info at http://www.1914-1918.ca (sorry I can’t code the link on this French keyboard).

We have a long weekend over here, it was a PA day and the girls and I got to go to a local farm with friends and we just enjoyed the day (it was sunny and warm enough for jeans and long sleeve ts).

Despite the great weather and the fact that it’s still the first week of November I feel a little tiny bit like Christmas and I am toying with the idea of getting the Christmas lights up. I promise not to turn them on, but it would be nice to get them up. Also, I feel crafty and need to spend some time making my Christmas cards and getting my Xmas gifties started! Crazy but it’s true.

We do have a kids bday party to attend and I also must do a bit of gardening.
