Jump ropes that KILL

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

I bought an adult-sized skipping rope for me at the Superstore the other night. Seeing as though I’m such a responsible person I decided it might be a good idea to read the health warnings that came with it.

I’m SO GLAD I DID.

I thought I should reproduce them here just in case you have a skipping rope lurking around your home as well.

  • Exercise programs of any kind present an inherent danger to the participant.
  • Serious or fatal injury can occur.
  • Consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program.
  • All [brand name] equipment and accessories are intended to be used by adults only in the manner shown/illustrated/described. Anyone under the age of 18 should have adult supervision.
  • Always keep children and pets away from equipment
  • Always follow instructions (if provided)
  • Use proper techniques and common sense when exercising.

So there you have it. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

LOL I love warning labels. They work so hard to cover their own butts.

Is it the kind of jump rope made up of long cylindrical beads? Is there another warning that says “Prone to leaving wicked bruises when user hits themself in the shin”?

Good luck. Jumping rope is supposed to be amazing exercise.

It is not made of barbed wire, razor blades or hard beads… just woven nylon rope. I’m surprised they weren’t more explicit about the potential choking hazard.

Oh my! Can you imagine jumping Double Dutch with 2 of those!?

I laugh at those warnings. Why doesn’t a TV come with that kind of warning? Warning: Sitting down while watching TV may make your behind big. Do not eat while operating.

Wow, that is so funny! At least you have an excuse if you don’t feel like exercising! ;)

The sad thing is somebody somewhere probably tripped while skipping and successfully sued for ‘damages’.

These warning always kill me … like don’t leave your baby unattended in the Bumboo, which resulted in a recall in order to thump a sticker on it warning exactly that. I blame all those law suits for stupid stuff …

I have a nice boxer’s jumping rope – all leather, the perfect grips, the right length…it looks great hanging on the hook by my desk. You know why I haven’t used it more than once? I don’t have a bra that can take it.

It brings to mind the “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.” Exercise can be harmful; obesity definitely is. I haven’t mastered your leg lift, foot circles yet and know you’re adding skipping. Well, okay.

My new blow-dryer warned me against using while sleeping and using in the shower. Noted.
