to sleep, perchance to sleep

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

I wasn’t kidding about our need for a new mattress. I slept like the dead here at the Pantages last night. But here’s the question… What to buy? I would love to go organic. Someone here recommended a brand called Sage Hill [I can’t remember – Natura? Any other brands you know?] I’m totally open. What do you think? Is it worth going organic? Any recommendations to share? Tell me your stories! Are you sleeping in long divots like me? :)

I’m off to breakfast and a few final sessions before I fly home to Ottawa today.

we need a new mattress here too. it’s such an expense though so i keep pretending like we don’t! kinda sad considering how important sleep is.

i do love good sheets though, nice bedding makes a big difference…..so does having a partner who doesn’t snore!!!!!! mine does.

i’m looking forward to hearing what everyone else says.

Go to Sleep Country-they really are good and realize that it could take a few hours to pick a mattress…….and you could pay a lot. We did but have never looked back. On the organic side, our friends did that, had it custom made etc and had each side made different for their needs and they like it.

We got a bamboo/latex combo from the Brick actually and LOVE it. We wanted natural fibers.

I did order a catalogue with organic options from Obasan, located in Ottawa – $$ but great choices for organic http://www.obasan.ca

We spent big bugs for a new mattress from the Brick, just over a year ago. I will not shop there again, even though I get a great discount with my Edvantage card (something for teachers).

Within months, our new $1000+ mattress had body imprints – I am not at all impressed! We got the mattress guy to come out and look at it, but we were told that it was not 1.5 inches deep, therefore not). Grr.

I am really wishing that we had purchased a thick, high quality futon mattress for a fraction of the cost…

Just my 2-cents…

We have a Natura mattress and we LOVE. IT.

SOOO comfy – the best $ we’ve ever spent.

no more worrying about allergies, i can’t feel my husband move on the other side of the bed, no squeaky and uncomfortable springs. Just pure bliss.

We got ours at Bedzzz

My husband and I had been sleeping on a double futon (a futon! a DOUBLE!) since we got married nine years ago (NINE YEARS!). While quite comfortable, it was NOT big enough for two adults and sometimes three kids.

While I would have loved to buy an organic latex mattress or an organic wool or cotton futon, those options weren’t in the budget. A new regular mattress posed the threat of off-gassing into our home for years to come.

Two weeks ago, we finally bought a second-hand, but barely used queen-size mattress. We are SO happy with it. It’s super comfortable, saved us a ton of money off full price (a nice bonus), but I also don’t have to worry about all the toxic glues and materials used in most mattress construction… at least not as much. Because we got such a smokin’ deal on the mattress, we had money left over to buy nice organic bedding.
