I was picking the girls up from school this afternoon and found myself cosied up to a stretch of wall that was sheltered from the wind. I turned my face up to the sun, leaned back, and cleared my mind. Ah, sun. Bliss.
Days like this remind me of summer.
We have plans already. Plans! Sketchy ones, yes, but they are plans. And I’m excited.
1) Camping
Yes. We’re going camping again. It’s become a regular thing for us. This year we’re going to a different location, and will be joined by newbie camper friends who have two kiddies of their own. Their kids are younger than ours, and I imagine that when they go camping they have a lot of the same worries that I used to have.
- Will someone trip and fall into the fire pit? (Never happened)
- Burn themselves on a skewer? (It happened).
- Fall out of the canoe? (Never happened.)
- Get hit in the eye with a paddle? (It happened.)
- Will I survive with my mental health intact? (Well… no one said it was going to be EASY.)
This year we’re going to Silent Lake. Mark and I went there alone last fall.(FYI – Here’s the Ontario Parks website entry) And some other very pretty photos too.
I am. So. Excited. This place is a little wilder than our last campsite, albeit it’s still “car camping” … so if there are any campalot diehards reading this they’re undoubtedly rolling their eyes, thinking that “real” camping doesn’t include toilets, trips for ice cream, or inflatable beach toys.
Well to you all I say ppppffffft. :)
I love being outdoors. And it’s doubly fun with children.
2) The Big Smoke (aka Toronto)
Mark and I went together, sans kinder, in January 2005. This time we promised to bring them with us.
For some reason Sarah and Emma have it in their minds that Toronto is some fantastic exotic destination. It’s the most faraway place they can think of, so they’re pretty pleased to be going. We’re booked at a kid-friendly downtown hotel for a couple of nights, but I don’t think we’re going to have enough time to see everything we want to see. The CN Tower and the Toronto Zoo are definitely on our list. I’m also considering Centre Island, but am not sure if it’s more or less cheesy than I remember. Sightseeing suggestions are welcome. Remember: my children would be more than thrilled to ride the subway. :)
