Soccer season is upon us once again. Last night Sarah, Emma and I scoured the city in hopes of finding Emma a pair of cleats. They won’t let her play without them.
Ok. I’m exaggerating a little. SCOURED is a strong word to use when in fact you’ve only gone to two Canadian Tires and one Sport Chek. But by the end of it I was more tired than if I had just wheedled an elephant into argyle socks.
Canadian Tire, you see, sells the plain jane variety of soccer shoes. They’re a decent quality, and at $19.99 they aren’t a bad deal. I didn’t want to spend more than that, considering she’s only going to be playing for 90 minutes once a week for the next couple of months.
But we left it too late and size twos were nowhere to be found. Sport Chek was my last option. I knew that shoes were not going to be had for $19.99. And I was right. And we had no choice but to buy her a particular pair, ones that may very well be the Very Last Size Twos in the City of Ottawa and its Immediate Environs.
And here they are… snazzy, no? But (1) they cost more than I was originally wanting to pay and (2) they they are pearl-coloured. Two strikes. But she liked them. Loved them, in fact. And they fit. I had no choice. I forked over my credit card and watched the cashier ring them up for a total of $45.99. Ah well. I hope Sarah can wear them someday.
