We have a winner! Congratulations Tanya!  I don’t pack my kids’ lunches anymore. I stopped doing it as soon as they were old enough to open the mayonnaise jar and cut their sandwiches in half. It may have been second or third grade, I’m not sure, but I will say this: this decision was a win/win situation […]

I’ve made this recipe for “sushi salad” I found on the Canadian Family website a few times. I think I need to start making it every week: Sidebar: I’ve been craving sushi for the last couple of weeks. I’ve been by the Naked Fish Sushi place in Westboro THREE TIMES, only to find a “sorry […]

I was out of town yesterday and as soon as I set out I realized I was setting myself up for a potential failure. You see, although I had packed a lunch I was unprepared to face one of my big road trip habits: a stop at Tim Horton’s for coffee and a big meaty breakfast […]

It’s been awhile since I felt like I was dragging my weary bones out of bed. I woke up feeling pretty awesome today. There could be a number of reasons why: (1) the sun was shining (2) there are more fruits and veggies in my diet, and no meat (3) I got a decent night’s […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human offspring: Emma (24) and Sarah (22). During the day I work as a writer at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
