Yesterday was the first day of my summer. Seems a little early, doesn’t it? We decided to spring Sarah from FT daycare and yesterday was her first day home. Emma will be in school until the 29th, but we thought it would be nice for Sarah and I to have some one on one time.
We dropped Emma off and went down to Westboro village. I bought a coffee and Sarah and I happily sat on some sunny steps and shared a croissant. We watched a garbage truck heave a huge bin over itself and dump it into the back. S. waved at the driver, and was thrilled when he waved back. We watched pigeons fly overhead. We watched a squirrel negotiate the topmost branches of a nearby tree. We watched a bee zip past our legs, speeding madly toward greener pastures.
I fleetingly recounted all the things that I should have been doing around the house. Domestic life has been spinning out of control. There’s the laundry issue. We need to prep for our yard sale. There’s garden that needs tending. But I decided that there are more important things that needed to be experienced: like a quiet coffee and chatter about squirrel acrobatics and the flight patterns of the neighborhood birds.
