A fishing expedition to beat all, part 2

Just catching up? Read yesterday’s post right here. The cool thing about Kenauk Nature is that it feels remote, but it isn’t very far from civilization. That being said, it was a bit of a rough road up to Twins Lake, but we felt safe and secure in our vehicle. I seriously doubt our Prius […]

A fishing expedition to beat all, part 1

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: Sponsored posts|travel talk

Before this past weekend, I’d never really been fishing before. Our daughters have fished under Mark’s supervision a handful of times during summer camping trips, but I was always on the sidelines or having a nap back at our tent. I am very grateful to Mark, because he taught the girls some basic fishing skills […]

I need a bit of time to think about some of the issues I brought up in the first part of my post about kids and smartphones. Can you tell I’ve hit a bit of a breaking point? Sigh. In the meantime, I wanted share with you some information about an important campaign kickstarted by Shoppers […]

Awhile back I wrote a post about lice removal service here in Ottawa that happens to be handily close to where we live in Westboro. We’ve had kids with lice. Teens with lice. I’ve known parents with lice in the neighbourhood too. I’m relieved to know there’s a place we can go when we need help. […]

When the folks at terra20* first told me that Alain Menard, co-founder of the Green Beaver Company was going to be speaking at terra20 I did a little bit of Googling. Of course, I know Green Beaver very well. Green Beaver is a Canadian company, founded by Karen Clark and Alain, and they make safe alternatives […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark. We have two daughters: Emma (19) and Sarah (17). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
