Saturday agenda

Posted by andrea in: Misc. life

The sign reads:

YARD SALE!
Sat. June 4
8:30 – noon
[our addy]
Books! And years worth of accumulated stuff.

Sarah and I typed it out this morning. It’s printed on orange paper and has been taped to several poles at major cross streets in our neighborhood. I almost added: “The wife has gone crazy and is clearing out my stuff” but I rarely refer to myself in third person. I didn’t want to quote Mark unfairly. Besides, our neighbors might think we’re crazy. As if they don’t already. Ha!

These last few days I’ve been hauling/sorting/pricing/cleaning countless items… some of which has been in boxes for years. There is a ton of it. I will be so glad to see it all go. If it doesn’t sell it’s going to charity. The proclamation has been made: if it doesn’t sell it’s not coming back into the house. Ever.

Mark has observed that I’m pricing things too low. It’s intentionally priced to sell. I already pity the person who tries to bargain with me. I hold my ground, unless what I’m selling is utter crep.

Speaking of which… embarrassing confession: we replaced our toaster oven a few months ago. The old toaster oven was shunted into the basement CRUMBS AND ALL. It took me 10 minutes to shake out the crumbs and scrape out the interior. And it’s still not totally clean. I just gave up. It’s selling for a dollar. Extra crumbs are included for free.

Yard sales reveal embarrassing things about us all, don’t they? Oh man… wish us luck!

YEAH! It looks awesome andrea! I’ve been anxiously awaiting, cursing that we’re not in ottawa anymore so that I could’ve come over for a peek! I think the mirror is great. We got a similar one recently for our fireplace and could not believe how much better it made things. Can’t wait to see it in real life. We’ll be back the first week of july so try to keep the kids out until then so we can see it in it’s current state of newness :)

Nice to meet you guys, and I’m sure the camera stand will be perfect for mounting my new iSight for making movies.

  • andrea tomkins: It's going to be tough. The problem is that everyone seems to have a different tolerance. Some people think it's no big deal, while others haven't lef
  • Ginger: I'm that person too. I liked my personal space before this, but now...I would prefer even more than 6 feet please!
  • andrea tomkins: We have a natural gas BBQ but we bought this portable one a few years back fo camping and/or picnics. I loooove the smell of burning charcoal! And yes
  • Corvid: You have a charcoal grill *and* a gas bbq? Or just charcoal? I have both. Charcoal flavour is unique/delish. What restaurant is that?

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human daughters: Emma (20) and Sarah (18). During the day I work as a writer at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families.
