Now it’s official

[edited to add: I found our earliest video of Sarah. If you have Quicktime installed on your computer you can view it here.]

When I tucked her in, I found one leg sticking out from underneath the covers. I gently unwrapped it from the tangle and tucked it back under. Can she really be this tall? Indeed she is. My baby is five. Sarah Madeline is five.

I leaned in and took a long sniff. She always smells wonderful.

[God, I hate reading posts like this one! Boo freakin’ hoo! Time marches on, and it does so for everyone. Sorry to inflict this upon you my friends, but five is special.]

This little girl is such a treasure to me. I think I am probably linking to this every year, but here is the story of her birth. I was reading it over last night because I couldn’t remember what time she was born. Poor kid. She will suffer needlessly from second-child sydrome, where the trivialities of life escape the minds of her parents.

When Sarah was born Mark made this birth announcement (click for full-size version):

We bought who-knows-how-many jars of baby apple juice, removed the labels and replaced it with this one of our own design.

Here she is, looking newish with her big sister.

Here is Sarah learning how to walk:

And here she is this morning. Sarah got breakfast in bed, lucky girl. At her request: a hash brown, bacon, a scrambled egg and some honeydew melon. She cleared her plate. Those who know her won’t be surprised by this.

Oh Sarah bear. I love you so much it breaks my heart. I hope you know that and remember it forever.
