Marla’s 5ives

Posted by andrea in: Memes/blog awards etc

You all know how much I adore Marla. When I was in Toronto recently I had the pleasure of meeting her as well as Josie, her little girl.

I was tickled when Marla asked me to complete a meme for her.

So here it is.

Five things in Marla’s fridge:

First off, you might be interested in knowing that Mr. and Mrs. Marla have the kind of Frigidaire that I’ve seen in the “Domestic Arts” exhibit at the Ottawa Museum of Science. You think I kid. I do not kid. But I was charmed by her fridge, because it has that retro cool feel that everyone is crazy about nowadays. And like many things from way back then, the fridge is small. It’s because people had different (better! healthier!) shopping habits. They went shopping every day: stopping at the butcher, the baker, and the green grocer.

Marla’s like that. And I admire that about her. But I digress.

Again: here are five things in Marla’s fridge:

1) Miracle whip. Crazy kid. Did you think she was a Miracle Whip kind of gal? Me neither. She’s from Buffalo! I figured her for a strictly mayo type of person.
2) So Nice Soy Milk (chocolate flavour)
3) Hoisin sauce. I love hoisin sauce. It’s the undiscovered condiment.
4) Watermelon.
5) Asparagus spears standing in a pretty vintage drinking glass.

The next category is “five things in Marla’s closet.” I felt pretty sheepish going upstairs and picking a closet. So I picked the closet wardrobe in the closest room at the top of the stairs. And there I found:

1) A pair of Converse sneakers (but that wasn’t a surprise)
2) rolls of toilet paper
3) tall black boots
4) a walking cane with a bull dog head
5) Clairol “Lock and roll” rubber curlers (I had these in high school!)

Five things in Marla’s car

For the record: this is a lame category. Who cares what’s in people’s cars?
I am not a car person and didn’t even notice what kind of car she drives… is that supposed to be part of the question? I can see Marla driving something old, turquoise-coloured and with tail fins… something akin to her fridge. But her car is actually black. I think.

In Marla’s car I found:

1) dandelion seeds
2) car seat
3) empty phone? glasses case?
4) vomit stains (which I didn’t even notice but Marla pointed out to me)
5) cassette tape titled: “Marla’s 4-wheel honky tonk”

Five things in Marla’s purse

Like my own purse, many items are parenting-related. I wonder when this will stop and I will have my purse to myself again.

1) towel
2) baggie of crackers and pretzels
3) oilcloth bib
4) cool red wallet
5) tiny spiral-bound notebook with a bird image on the cover

There you have it! Thanks Marla, for letting me peek into your world.
