cut and ready: collage squares

A few readers might recognize (from the photo above) an attempt to make 1″ collage squares.

I took this photo last week, and I haven’t done much more on them since then. I just haven’t had time.

I’d been starved to work on something creative. So I decided to try making these mini collages squares a la the infamous Chrysti. I cut 100 squares (what was I thinking?) to start, and now I have a stack of about 90 left.

They’re not working out as well as I wanted.

FYI: here’s her tutorial. Are they gorgeous or what?

I should have mine red. I made them green/copper and gold (even though red is my fave colour to work with) because I didn’t want to copy Chrysti too closely. Gack.

Perhaps I’ll scan some and show you where I’m heading. In the meantime I have re-realized something. Good collage is hard. Bad collage is easy.

ETA: here are four. Only 96 more to go. Hmm.

Hi Andrea,

I have a question for you. Since you have so many creative ideas and then make them happen, I wonder where and how you store/display them all. This is my ongoing challenge, living in a little 2-bed bungalow with unfinished basement. Where to put the crafts? And now there’s more coming home from the toddler’s school….

The little cards look great! I’ve never seen such an idea.

Hi Claudette: I am Andrea’s husband Mark and I can tell you with great confidence that Andrea does NOT have the answer to your question. To date, we have NOT found a place for all of the craft items and the daily output of 6 pieces of art each from our children. In the near future we are planning on renovating our home and the first thing I will say to the architect is WE NEED A SPECIAL CRAFT ROOM. :)
