I’m doin’ the pigeon (subtitle: thank you!)

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Oh! Things!|Photography

Gifts are great. I am a gift lover – I mean, to some extent this is a trait that we all probably share – but I think I like gifts a little bit more than the average person.

That’s why, when it was time sign to up for the other Andrea’s Winter Gift Extravaganza I jumped in without hesitation. The secret santa aspect is particularly intriguing to me…. because the exchange is not entirely without risk. When I do my shopping for my own recipient I spend a lot of time thinking and shopping, shopping and thinking, sometimes EVEN AT THE SAME TIME! The problem is this: what if my recipient doesn’t do the same? What if they disregard the questionnaire that I painstakingly filled out?

Ugh. So I just reread my questionnaire. I think I’m either very easy to shop for or very very difficult. Pehaps Mark could comment on this. I have a lot of interests (good) but some of them are very specific (not so good.)

And so it should be no surprise to know that I was holding my breath the whole time I was unwrapping my gift. I had to stare at this package for AGES. And let me tell you, it wasn’t easy.

Yes. That was what was kicking around our office.

After some delay it was (finally!) time to open. So I did. And this is what was inside:

It was WRAPPED! Goshnabbit, I didn’t wrap mine. I should have!

On top was this pretty little thing:

A silver fortune cookie? Did I write that in my questionnaire? I love these! The fortune inside reads: “There’s no point in being grown up if you can’t be childish sometimes.” Hey, a fortune I agree with, and might I say, base my life upon! :)

Okay. On to the wrapped gift… I tore off the paper to reveal:

Oh my. I laughed so hard. As you can see, it’s a book about Sesame Street! It has great photos, the words to a lot of my favourite old songs and character bios (both human and muppet). What a wonderful book. Emma and Sarah love it too.

Thank you to my dear secret santa: Jenn (whose blog seems to be down right now but I will add the link once it’s back up.) What a sweet surprise. And it was well worth the wait.

For the rest of you: I would like to present the song that’s going to be in my head for the rest of the week… (here’s a hint: “Just LOOKING at these pigeons makes me feel terrific!”) I still remember how weird it was to see Bert’s feet.

Thanks again Jenn … !

hahahaha!!! Oh, youtube strikes again.

Doin’ the (coo coo) pigeon. Oh, I’m gorrvin’ now!

I find it scary that this morning, Bert from sesame street reminds me of my dad. He raced homing pigeons as a kid AND he loves oatmeal. And I mean LOVES.

Thanks for sharing!
