Dinner at Westboro Beach

Last Friday we went down to Westboro Beach for dinner. It wasn’t a difficult choice. If we’re going to have pizza anyway, why not have it outdoors, and overlooking the river?

The kids loved it. We loved it. Mummy got to have a lukewarm beer. It was wonderful.

More pics in my flickr set.

Mark has an excellent, excellent eye. The composition in those photos *by Mark* were fantastic. I mean it. Reall, really, exceptionally good. I studied photography in school and can spot an excellent photographer when I see one. Kudos. Now I know why he asked you to crop out the toilet paper. More, more, more.

Me again. Must say I am loving that art you bought in the glebe! Her stuff looks amazing. I love the Ontario College of Art. Love it. Original art is a fantastic thing to collect, big or small. I am loving those pieces you got. I have art envy now. I wonder if her stuff is as nice in person as it looks online? Worth it? i may have to contact her and purchase a piece.

Thanks twinmom. :) And Katie – Her work is great in person. You should contact her and see if her work is on display somewhere. I’m assuming you’re in Ottawa?

Mark – if you’re reading this, please don’t let Katie’s comments go to your head. ;)

Love those photos! Both you and Mark have a great eye, but take totally different photos. Gorgeous.

As for Westboro Beach, do you actually swim there? I haven’t for many years, but would love to take J to a beach this summer, close by. How is the water?

Britannia Beach apparently has better water quality because the river actually flows there, whereas there’s a tendency for the water to pool at Westboro. We don’t bother going after it rains. The last few times we’ve been there the girls have done more wading than swimming but I expect that to change this year. This is from the City of Ottawa website:

“The Ottawa Public Health samples beach water regularly from June to the end of August. The water is tested for E. coli bacteria. When high levels of E. coli are detected in beach water, other disease-causing organisms are likely to be present and may pose a risk to your health.

A no swimming advisory will be issued if bacteria levels are over 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water tested or if they are over 100 E. coli per 100 ml of water tested on 2 or more consecutive days. A 24-hour no swimming advisory will be issued for Westboro Beach after a rainfall of 5 mm or more.

For more information call the Beach Information line 613-580-6744, ext.13219.”

The hotline is helpful. I suggest calling before you head out.

thanks for the beach info line!

being in the east end of town, we’ve been to Petrie island quite a few times: a beautiful huge beach but with inconsistent e.coli counts which can fluctuate from morning to afternooon

Hi Andrea, yes, I am in Ottawa.

The fabulous artist (sorry, I know she has a name) doesn’t look like she has any shows upcoming. I hate to buy off her website without seeing the art. Her stuff is fabulous. I love it. Original art rocks. We should all try to support the arts a bit!

Mark knows his composition. Rule of thirds, anybody?

Thanks Andrea. I don’t like being a nervous nelly, but when they closed the beaches so much last summer it really bummed me out. Hopefully we will get to some this summer :).
