another happy twist in the career department

Posted by andrea tomkins in: - Westboro

As luck would have it, someone decided I was wordy enough to have my own regular little space in our neighborhood newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times. My first column (Kitchissippi Corner, ha, that still cracks me up) was published today. I have another column to submit next week.

The column (and if you have been coming here for awhile you will understand why I love this idea so much) is about the hidden gems of our neighborhood. The first one was about Maplelawn. The next one, well, I can’t say, but it’s going to be about another quiet little spot that has its own fascinating history.

I know there are a few of you out there who live in this region (fyi: Kitchissippi extends from the river to Carling Avenue, Bayswater in the east to Woodroffe in the west) so I hope you will consider sharing some of your favourite spaces and places in our community.

Use the comments below or the contact button at the top of this page. Thank you!!

Can you post your column here Andrea? I’d like to read it and I don’t live in your hood!

Congratulations!

I have a few gems to add to your list to check out:

– Wabi Sabi (I’ve already taken 2 classes and plan on taking a another one soon)
– Heaven’s to Besty – Very cute
– Giant Tiger – Funny, I know, but it is the closest geocery store for Hintonburg residents. It actually has fruit, eggs and milk inside!
– Spring Roll – My favorite place for pho that’s near by
– St. Paul Vicent thrift store – This is a real thrift store.
– Collected Works – They’ll order books for you if they don’t have it on there shelfs

Ones that I haven’t been too, but would like to check out
– I hear a rumour that there is a bead store, somewhere slighty off wellington st. west
– PramaShanti Yoga Centre

I hope this helps!

Good luck.

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human offspring: Emma (24) and Sarah (22). During the day I work as a writer at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
