Bustin’ those January blues: Wednesday

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

LiteBook is On. Breakfast is eaten. After I’ve posted this I’m going to brush my teeth, take my vitamin D, and head to the gym … SNOW AND ALL.

I walk to the gym. It is a real pain in the butt during the weeks, nay, MONTHS of bad weather. Speaking of pain, my arms are killing me. I’ve gone back to doing pushups again and I’ve done a set of 30 (ok, girly ones) every night this week PLUS my usual 50 crunches (but I’ve been doing those for weeks now.)

But.I.Must.Go. I know the extra fitness will make me feel good and help me get through winter.

Walking is good too. I used to be a big walker. After Sarah was born I went for a power walk every night – not to lose weight, just to get out of the house. I did the same circuit every night – 30-40 minutes – and after awhile I started running the last few blocks home, just because I could. Surprising things happened to my body. Good things!

Today’s task: strike three manageable things from my annoying “I-have-to-but-I-don’t-really-want-to” list. I know this one is going to do wonders for my mental health.

What’s something YOU can strike off your list today?  i.e. Call your mother? Clean out your veggie drawer? Throw something out? Darn your socks? Change your lightbulbs for CFLs?

[update: 6:00 p.m]

Here are the three niggly tasks which have been sapping me of my motherly superpowers:

  1. 1. Submit “new donor” form at Canadian Blood Services. DONE!
  2. 2. Clean my bedroom closet and fill a bag for charity. DONE
  3. 3. Make appointment for a physical. *sigh* But DONE!
  4. 4. Bonus task! Frame Emma and Sarah’s Christmas portrait. DONE!
  5. 5. Bonus task! Change the lightbulb in my tiny bedroom lamp. DONE!

I hear you on the mental health thing. So often, the things I put off doing weigh me down mentally in a big way – and when I finally get around to doing them, they are never as big a deal as I’d expected. At work I have a rule – anything that takes less than ten minutes to do gets done immediately, no matter how low the priority. The freedom from mental clutter it provides is worth it.

Do you like your litebook and have you seen a difference? I’ve considered getting one.

Today is FULL of errands as Wednesdays typically are. On cold days like today, I much rather be at home and check a few things off that ever growing list!

I have been working on a de-clutter project in my house and I have to say it does amazing things for my mental health. Even if I still have months of work to do.

I know you didn’t specifically ask for it but it is an interesting concept (that I can’t do because I have a bum wrist). A friend of mine is doing it and loves it (and hates it :) ).

Sorry if this comment comes up twice, something strange happened the first time I tried to post it.

I have been working on a major decluttering project at my house and it does wonderful things for my mental health. Even if I do have months of work ahead of me :(

It is an interesting program. A friend of mine is doing it and sees a big difference. I can’t do it because I have a wonky wrist.
