sitting and thinking

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

This is my first big test run of blogpress for the iPhone. It’s not working exactly as I’d like it to, but it will have to do.

I’m sitting on the edge of Dundas Square in Toronto. I have a big cup of tea in hand watching the people go by.

I ventured into the Eaton Centre to find my tea. I poked my head into a few shops but almost immediately turned on my heel and left. Shopping just isn’t fun for me anymore. I felt overwhelmed and also rather provincial. I was rather looking forward to H & M but I discovered I just couldn’t deal with the crowds and the piles of stuff.

I am much happier, resting here and taking in the city from a distance. And I’m okay with that.

Next: back to the Pantages to change for dinner and to chill by my mini in-room fountain. Ahhhh.

The blogging via phone seemed to work well!

I love shopping, but like you said, it’s not the same when it’s crowded etc. I like to browse and take my time…

How did you like blogging from iphone? Whenever I use my hubby’s, I get annoyed, because my fingers always type the wrong key at first… was it hard for you? Did it get easier with time? How did you not enjoy shopping? ;) I kid, I kid… but seriously. I love shopping in TO. BUt not in Eaton Centre, it is too crazy in there. I prefer Sherway Gardens. Or any location of Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids! ;)

Neat! I’m in T.O. this weekend too (but with the fam for a wedding). I agree that Eaton Centre is crazy. I’m happy to be staying in Bloor West area this time. Have fun and I’d love to hear more about the local food conference – we are reading Michael Pollan’s books for our next book club meeting.

As someone from Toronto, I no longer venture into the ‘Eaton Centre’ when I go home. It’s changed too much and can be overwhelming. Shop on Queen ST-you will love it! AND, if you want to do some of the chains, head to Bloor where the flagships of Roots, Gap etc are there. There might even still be the smaller H and M on Bloor:)
Oh, and the Crepes at the crepe place on Queen are divine AND the Red Box- i think that’s what it’s called, on Queen St W is amazing-tea and snacks etc:)

Bragging rights! I would imagine the convenience will have to win out over the fat-thumbing every once in awhile…

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human offspring: Emma (24) and Sarah (22). During the day I work as a writer at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
