Dear Photo Fairies

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Photography

Apparently I need a special flash for my camera in order to particpate in the next segment of my lighting class.

In fact, when the instructor asked the class if everyone has a handheld flash, everyone said oh yes, OF COURSE. I was (and am) the only one without. Gah.

This is the flash that was recommended, the one I’m considering … mostly because the Nikon SB-900 is totally unrealistic in terms of cost. *sigh*

I don’t expect you, dear Photo Fairies, to magically deliver one of these on my doorstep, but I would be very happy if you could somehow make $259.99 (plus taxes) available to me for this purpose.

This contribution would greatly further my goal of becoming a grandmaster flasher. Thank you.

The model for last night’s photo class (the daughter of my photo-partner) turned out to be a regular Fishbowl reader. Say hello to Susan! She was great. Anyone care to guess her age? ;)

Well, I know that there will be no men who take a guess at her age. I learned that lesson long ago, along with “so how pregnant are you?”. Good photo, though.

Oh lacoop, don’t be nervous. Go ahead and take a guess!

(You’re right about the pregnancy question. That’s a never-ever.)

Well she’s very beautiful, that’s for sure! And you, a great photographer. Um, my guess is 36?

Aw, Andrea, you are too sweet :-) I see some wrinkles that may be giving away my true age (which I will not reveal in case there are any more guesses!) I love the photo and it was awesome to meet you last night. I hope you can figure something out for the flash.

At first glance I thought a teenager, now I am guessing older, maybe late 20’s? Early 30 at most. Can you make me look that good???

I was wishing for the photo fairies two weeks ago, but since they didn’t show up, I was thankful for a few sales to help me out. I cannot give it to you, but I don’t mind lending it to you if you need it for your course. The only caveat is that I would need it for the weekend of June 20th. Email if I can help.

Yep, another gorgeous model…Andrea, where do you find such lovely models for your photography class each of them are beauties???

I figure because Veg Vixon’s hint Susan is older than she appears because she certainly looks like someone in their late 20’s early 30s…but I will go with something outrageous like 40 just because her real age is supposed to be shocking.

Susan, can you pls tell us what sort of skincare you use???

If the photo fairies do show up, would you mind sending them my way next? I was asked to photograph a wedding in July (am freaking out!) and the church has ZERO windows = ZERO natural light.

This ( http://www.henrys.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ItemsDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&departmentId=10404&categoryId=11802&itemID=95102 ) would be awesome, but is sadly not going to happen. Not sure how I’ll drum up the money for a flash though since the couple isn’t paying me (it’s my gift to them).

As for Susan, I guess late 20’s early 30’s too.

Oh, your portraits are lovely Andrea. Good work!

It’s my 40th birthday this summer, and I’m hoping maybe my family might all pitch in to get me an SB-600, or maybe something used equivalent. The winter will be long and lightless without it!

In case anyone’s still wondering…

I’m going to be 35 next month.

And sorry to say, I have no hair and skin care secrets. I regularly go to bed with my makeup still on and I abuse my hair with daily flatironing to get it to behave!

Hee hee. Thanks Susan!
You should know there were a LOT of people out there who were too chicken to guess your age!

I would have throught you were an easygoing child-free 27. ;)
