A giveaway from Lavish & Lime

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Giveaways and product reviews

Edited to add: We have a winner. Thanks for your entries!

Lavish & Lime, one of the sponsors here at the Fishbowl, sent me some new CoverFlex food covers to try out.

I had actually never heard of these things before. They’re intended to be used as an alternative to plastic wrap and aluminum foil. The CoverFlex is made out of food-grade silicone and there are three sizes in each package. They’re stretchy, so they can cover any kind of container.

At first I wasn’t sure how this would work, but I was quickly converted once I realized how handy these are.

Exhibit A) Although the girls use plastic containers for their lunches I don’t really like to store leftovers in plastic. And I don’t have very many food storage containers (glass or otherwise) because storage space is a huge issue for us. (I need storage for storage, how ironic!)

Can I give you an example of when these came in handy? We had fajitas for dinner last week. When we were cleaning up I just left the fried onions in the little ceramic bowl I had served them in, pulled a small CoverFlex cover over the bowl and popped it into the fridge. Cleanup, done.

Exhibit B) Reheating those onions was a snap. The covers can go from the fridge to the microwave, which I love. (Besides, according to the experts plastic wrap shouldn’t come in contact with food, especially when heating it up in the microwave.) The covers can go in the freezer and even the oven (up to 446°F).

Exhibit C) Due to their stretchyness they provide a snug fit and are airtight.

If you’re interested in learning more about these eco food covers you can read more about them on the Lavish & Lime website.

Lavish & Lime is offering Fishbowl readers a chance to win a $25.00 gift certificate. That way you can either try the food covers for yourself or choose something else. Cool huh?

This is how you can do it.

  • Check out the Lavish & Lime website and let me know how you’d spend your winnings. A wee gift for yourself? Something for the kids? Or maybe you’re thinking about Christmas already? Let me know in the comments below to qualify for this giveaway.
  • This giveaway is for Canadian residents only. I’ll pick a name (using random.org) on Saturday October 31st at 12 noon EST and post the name of the winner here. You must leave a valid email. Because if I can’t reach you I’m giving it away to someone else.

Please note! Fishbowl readers qualify for a 10% discount at Lavish & Lime between now and October 31, 2009. Just use the code QUIETFISH at checkout.

I almost forgot. Lavish & Lime has a Facebook page too! If you’re a fan of eco-friendly gear you will want to check it out for additional giveaways and other insider scoop.

Good luck!

I love Lavish and Lime; I’d probably get the reusable sandwich wrap and a reusable snack pouch with my winnings. Or maybe an apron for me…

I love the covers but the kids could also use some cute new covers for their ski helmets. Decisions, decisions…

Although the bamboo spork looks cool, I know my daughter will only stab herself (or me) with it. So I’m gonna have to say that I’ll buy the kids konserve stainless nesting trio.

Gotta get some of those plastic containers out of the house…

Very cool! I’d actually use the gift certificate for the covers, and I’d also throw in some of the reusable produce bags, as well, which I’ve been meaning to get for ages.

This is the first time I’ve visited their site and I’m so in love. So many pretty pretty things!

I think I would choose this shoulder bag:

It’s gorgeous.

Oh, those CoverFlex covers are right up my alley. I detest using plastic wrap and often leave things uncovered in the fridge. If I win, I’d buy the CoverFlex covers.

Lots of great items over there at Lavish and Lime! I like the CoverFlex covers but I have had my eye on the stainless steel lunch containers for my girl’s lunches/snacks at school. I also love those napkins with the birds on them (love them). The body/face paint is nice too…lots of cool stuff.

Okay, so I know I can’t win. But I think I checked out this site when you first listed them and they didn’t ship to the US at that point…or maybe they did and I am thinking of a different company. Anyway, they ship to the US and YEA! for that! If I could enter and win I would put the gift certificate towards the Wooden Toys – Bug Balance Game. It is so unique and I think would be a great learning toy. The boys are too young for it but I think I might be buying this anyway and putting it away for a few years. It is totally worth the shipping costs because I haven’t seen anything like it before! There is also this awesome tree necklace that I like. Oh so many things!

There’s some super cool stuff on there. I think I’d go for the stainless steel dishes, the lunchbots duo or the food tray. Meaning to get some of those…

Great site! I am all over those food covers. When I was little my mom used something similar – they looked like little shower caps. I always thought they were a great idea.

I would definitely grab the food covers or even the cute organic blue circles cosmetic bag!

I would totally get the bamboo cutting board. We have been talking about getting new cutting boards for a while, but the money just always seems to be needed in other places!

I like the covers, but most of our kitchen dishes are pyrex with lids that we have bought for a couple dollars each over the years at garage sales. So I cook in them, let them cool down, but the lid on and in the fridge!

I’ve had my eye on the cute shower timers for a while now, and I also really like the various lunch bags and accessories, but I’d definitely buy the covers. I also used to use the shower cap style container covers, but haven’t been able to find any for a while. I’m sure these are much better. Great contest!

Wow, I am convinced. I am going to order some online (as soon as I find out I didn’t win the $25). My son just started school and I am struggling between convenience and waste. He’s really into his spiderman thermos, so the Food covers can let me keep leftovers in the fridge until morning where I can warm them for his thermos.

Also a must, the reusable sandwich wrap. No more bags, and takes up less space than tupperware. (those lunch boxes are not that big)

Helmet cover, for sure. Those are awesome.

And for me, one of the reuseable shopping bags. I haven’t used a plastic bag in months, but the ones I bought at PC and Walmart really drag down my outfit! ;-)
