It’s all about sandwiches over at SavvyMom today. What’s your fave place to pick up a sandwich when the craving hits? (I’m always looking for new places to try!)

Best sandwich in Ottawa: Calabria Mia at La Bottega in the market.

Calabrese salami sauteed in olive oil. Focaccia split in half. Salami goes on the bread with goat cheese and roasted red pepper. put the other half of the focaccia on top, put it in the oven ’til the cheese gets melty.

Served at La Bottega with a green salad with balsamic vinaigrette for the EXCELLENT price of $8.95. With a glass of red wine, followed by an espresso macchiato and an amaretti cookie = heaven.

(My only connection to this sandwich is that I miss getting them at lunch since I don’t work downtown anymore.)

My husband made an awesome sandwich the other day. It was on a really nice whole wheat sourdough bread from a local bakery. Inside was thinly sliced Oka cheese, some leftover roast chicken, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Along with that was one extra ingredient that made the sandwich especially good. It was some pomegranate chutney we’d recently picked up at a specialty food store. It worked wonderfully well with the chicken to give the sandwich a bit of special sweet/spicy flavour. Yum!

LOL…I guess that doesn’t help you find a new place to try…unless you want to come over to our house. ;-)
