Is it really only Wednesday?

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

It’s been a busy week here at the Fishbowl.

  • I’ve been working on a very fun article for Ottawa Magazine. I can’t tell you much about it, but part of it requires that I get my photo taken today. I don’t really like having my picture taken. BUT, lucky for me, the dirty work is being done by one of my favourite Ottawa photographers, Rémi Thériault. It’s been requested that I bring a, um, particular prop (can’t tell you that either) and pose with it for the shoot. Egads. I am thrilled AND mortified. You will get a chuckle when you see it, of that I am sure.
  • For the past few weeks I have also been working with the Canadian Museum of Nature communications team. Their new website which will be relaunching in the coming weeks. It’s been an amazing process and I’ve had the opportunity to write about some really fun topics: frogs and birds and fossils. You know how much I love this stuff, right? I was a huge fan of the Museum of Nature before… I am doubly so now! Anyway, five years of construction is finally coming to an end and they’re planning a giant celebration/grand reopening party over the May 22 weekend. Mark your calendars now because it’s going to be seriously spectacular.
  • The Festival of Chocolate fundraiser is tomorrow night, and guess what, I don’t know what to wear. I scoured Bayshore last night and came up dry. I did, however, find a pair of jeans. THAT is a whole other post. Trying on jeans is almost as fun as bathing suit shopping, don’t you think?
  • I was set to donate blood last night (remember last year’s Valentine’s Day blood drive?) but decided to re-check my eligibility on the website beforehand. Turns out I can’t give blood for an entire year. Punta Cana = possible exposure to malaria. Boo.
  • I’m being interviewed on Twitter by some Algonquin PR students at 10:00 this morning. Forgive me ahead of time if I clog your feed. Look up #PRL1555 if you want to follow along.

Off to shower and straighten my hair for the photoshoot. Gah. Wish me luck!

Good Luck! Jeans shopping is definitely worse because a bathing suit you can cover up if you are unsatisfied. Jeans you cannot. There are so many jeans on the market it is impossible to know what suits you. Whether you pick skinny or boot cut the choices are endless and then you have the color as well. For me it takes at least 5 trips to the mall to find that perfect pair.

That’s weird, when I got my malaria shot before travelling, I was told that if the destination is within 100km (or something like that) of the ocean or is densely populated like a city, there is no chance of malaria.

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our dog Piper who is kind of a big deal on Instagram. We also have two human daughters: Emma (20) and Sarah (18). During the day I work as a writer at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999. The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
