Sarah is reading Zorgamazoo by Robert Paul Weston – and loves it. “It’s ONE LONG POEM,” she said excitedly. I checked. And she’s right. Here’s a sample from the intro: “Here is a story, that’s stranger than strange,/Before we begin you may want to arrange:/a blanket,/a cushion,/a comfortable seat,/and maybe some cocoa and something to eat.”

Oh, that sounds wonderful. Will have to keep that in mind for when my kids get a bit older.
Reminds me of Golden Gate, which is a novel written in verse by one of my favourite authors, Vikram Seth. (It’s not a kids’ book, but if you enjoy that style of writing, you might like it for yourself.

Zorgamazoo is bedtime reading at the moment for my daughter Kayleigh (11) and me. I picked up a copy when I was in Toronto last fall, just because it looks weird in a fun way. Only just got around to starting it (noticed it’s also signed by the author) a couple of weeks ago but we’re really enjoying it. Some good messages (eco awareness etc) in there as well.
For at least a couple of pages in each chapter I read, I make her guess what the last word or two of each rhyming couplet are … it’s quite good fun and she’s right about 90% of the time!
