Liveblogging the first day of summer – the 2013 edition!

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

This is where the blog becomes a bit more scrapbooky! I started liveblogging the first day of summer a few years ago, just for my own purposes. It’s a neat way to mark the day. I’ll be updating this post as the day goes on. Look for the most recent updates at the bottom.

7:30 a.m. – So much for sleeping in on the first day! I woke to find Piper beside the bed, whining. And then she stopped whining and just STARED at me until I rolled out of bed. It’s raining, and Mark took the car to work. I have no idea what we’re going to do today.

8:41 a.m. – Sarah is watching I Dream of Jeannie and Emma is packing a lunch. She’s working this summer! In the interest of her privacy that’s all I’m going to say about it, but I will say, YAY EMMA!

9:59 a.m. – I just spent the better part of an hour, biking, in the rain. Let’s just say I deserve MOTHER OF THE YEAR AWARD and leave it at that. Thank goodness for breakfast and hot coffee. Thank you Sarah! As for Piper, well… she’s quite busy doing her own thing:

11:01 a.m. – Piper is still snoozing. I have emerged from a long hot shower. Sarah has been painting. Sadly, the house needs a tidy.

11:30 a.m. – Working instead of tidying. Sarah went to school to pick something up that she forgot. Sigh.

11:51 a.m. – Finally tidying. Wondering if it WILL EVER STOP RAINING.

12:00 p.m. – CUE THE LURE OF FACEBOOK.

12:18 p.m. – More than slightly disconcerted to discover that a leaky bottle of bug spray melted the paint on the stoop on our side porch:

12:24 p.m. – AM feeling very “CLEAN ALL THE THINGS.” Could be that second coffee kicking in. Sarah is playing Candy Crush.

12:41 p.m. – I decided to attack the mudroom but have managed to make a huge mess. Sarah is making her lunch. Ramen noodles for the win!

1:14 p.m. – There’s a mudroom project that may require a coat of paint. Hmm.

1:44 p.m. – Spent the last 45 minutes re-arranging furniture. Now I’m slicing carrots for my lunch. Sarah’s back to painting and it’s still raining.

2:00 p.m. – A watched pot never boils so I’m puttering and prepping lunch. Behold my onions! They are tall!

Green onions!

2:27 p.m. – Finished a late lunch. Sidebar: roasted nori rocks! Must plan a visit to T & T sooner than later.

3:06 p.m. Sarah is making Jell-O and I’m still sorting out the mudroom. Sidebar: I have a bag full of Canada Goose feathers and I have no idea where to put them.

3:34 p.m. – The mudroom is finally clean. Tea time!

4:04 p.m. – Been watching the rain with Piper. Break time is over. Now for vacuuming. Sarah is cleaning her room. Sidebar: is every day going to be like this? Egads.

4:46 p.m. – I’m done vacuuming and Sarah is doing some dinner prep. Distracting myself by making a small travelling case for Walden.

4:47 p.m. – If it wasn’t raining I’m sure this day would be a lot less boring.

5:39 p.m. – DINNER. Breaded fish, potatoes and salad.

6:07 p.m. – Making Piper her dinners for the next couple of weeks. Sidebar: chicken gizzards make me retch.

6:10 p.m. – Piper is caught licking the dishes.

6:19 p.m. – Evening dog walk is aborted. Apparently Piper is a bit of a diva who doesn’t like to get her paws wet.

7:23 p.m. – We are back from a trip to Bayshore. Mark returned a purchase to the Apple store and we bought books and ice cream. Off to read!

10:49 p.m. – Mark and I watched the Daily Show and I’m going back to my book while he revs up the Xbox. Good night!

I was going to say you’re a week late, but then realized you meant summer vacation as opposed to summer season. :) Enjoy!

My ‘little’ girl is gainfully employed with your daughter this summer. I am so proud of her. There is only one problem. Blink! This ride is going too fast!

valerie – YES! I meant summer vacation. Although technically it’s a PD day today!

wanda – I know! It is certainly is going by quickly. The girls are going to have such a great summer. I’m so excited for them!

I love that you cleaned. I seem to always postpone stuff until a rainy day. Well it rained today and I’m watching Love It or List It.
