First blog post on our Chromebook!

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Oh! Things!

I’m tapping this post out on a new Samsung Chromebook that was delivered to our house earlier this week courtesy of Staples.

I will be in Wisconsin next week for a press tour and I considered letting the kids have the Chromebook while I’m away (I’m already convinced it’s going to be a fantastic for homework), but I’ve reconsidered my decision to leave it behind. It will make a sweet little blogging machine while I’m travelling. It’s so light and portable., and it easily slides into my purse. I can’t possibly leave it here now!

So far so good. I am definitely liking the Chromebook.  I think the keyboard is going to take some getting used to (there are a few shortcuts that differ from my Mac), but that’s hardly worth mentioning. ANYWAY, there WILL be a review posted within the next couple of weeks. It may be early to say but do think the Chromebook will be of interest to parents of schoolage kids and those of us who need portable workstations. In the meantime, this is what we’ve been up to this past little while:

Soccer night! Thank goodness it's not raining anymore.

It’s been busy around here lately, but the good kind of busy, you know what I mean? I can’t complain. I’ve been really enjoying our summer but I can’t wait for our school and work routines to start again. How are you winding down the summer?

I did consider buying this for Rachel last week as a homework machine, but decided it wasnt enough to get her through high school so but her an ACER for $50 more.

Hollie – that’s interesting. I’d be curious to hear the differences between the Acer and the Chromebook. The Chromebook does have some limitations (let’s say you’re a hard core gamer etc) but for everyday things (i.e. kids need to do homework) it seems like it’d do the trick nicely. Especially given the portability!

Laurel – thanks for the good wishes! I hope to blog a little while I’m away. We’ll see how much energy I have left at the end of the day. :)

Did you go apple-picking in Ottawa? I’d love a recommendation for a good place to go; it’s on my list of things to do in the coming weeks!
