Hey, I was wondering… as a kid we often sang this song:
Trick or Treat, smell my feet,
Give me something good to eat.
Not too big, not too small,
just the size of Montreal!
I grew up outside of Toronto. Is this a regional thing? Anyone else familiar with this ditty?
I grew up in Orleans, and that’s something we would say all the time! :) Maybe it’s regional to Ontario?

Yep, I grew up in Burlington, and I remember the first two lines really well. Last two, never heard of, though.

I was just singing that today, and Liam said, “What’s that?” It took a while for me to understand that he meant, what does Montreal mean? I grew up just north of Toronto, too.

The underwear version sounds strangely familiar. It might have been part of my Halloween tradition as well.
My neighbor is from out west. And she didn’t recognize the song at all. According to her (and she’s in her 30s as well) the kids used to stand outside the houses and yell HALLOWEEN APPLES HALLOWEEN APPLES until someone came to the door with treats.

My kids were singing that last night. I didn’t teach it to them so they must have picked it up at school. Maybe it’s part of the French cirriculum.

I grew up in Wisconsin and we sand the first two lines, but not the last two. There was one neighbor in particular that always made us do tricks for our treats.
