The evolution of eyewear

Posted by andrea tomkins in: parenting

It started with these frames:

The new Sarah

Then she graduated to these ones:

someone got new glasses

And now we have this:

new prescription

I’ve written about it before, but it needs to be said… a yearly eye exam is covered by OHIP for people under 20. If you haven’t had your children’s eyes checked, do it! I was sorry we waited so long. (Here’s the post from when Sarah first got glasses.)

Those are super cute! I wore glasses for almost 20 years but don’t need them anymore; I miss them as a fashion accessory!

She looks very grown up in her new frames. They’re totally stylish.

It’s so important to get eye exams! The girl had her first one last year and this year both kids will get one.

She’s darling!

My son just got glasses a few months ago. (He’s 8.) I was SHOCKED when the school nurse told us that he could only read the top line. (Guilty mom moment…)
I was also shocked to learn that wearing his glasses will make his eyesight better; and after just a few weeks there was a noticeable difference.

YES! Checkups are so important!

Oh, parental guilt. My mum also talks about the guilt she suffered when I first got glasses when I was 14 and she realized how much I hadn’t been seeing.

It’s great how children’s eyewear has evolved stylewise. My first glasses were soooo dorky. I’ve also got astigmatism and am considering laser eye surgery. The thing holding me back is that my glasses have become such a big part of my look and my visual identity. I just can’t imagine not wearing them anymore!

Thanks for pointing that out, Andrea! Those are sweet glasses. As well as figuring out if your children can see well, an eye exam evaluates eye health.
