Hula hooping drop in – this Friday

Posted by andrea tomkins in: - Westboro

I’m going to go to the Hoop Jam at Dovercourt tomorrow night. Anyone care to join me? (It’s free!)

I am going to say this right up front: I plan on looking absolutely ridiculous. I’ve tried this before. I had (wrongly) assumed my fabulously generous waist:hip ratio would be of benefit. I thought it was going to be easy-peasy! Ha ha! I was surprised to discover that hooping was harder than I remembered it. But it’s really fun (trust me on this), and it will give you a really good workout. (It’s supposed to be really good for your core.)

It’s this Friday (October 24), from 18:00 – 19:30 in the Assembly Hall at Dovercourt

This from their website:

Drop in to practice your hoop moves, groove to the tunes, meet other hoopers, or maybe try it for the first time! Bring your own hoop, or use one of ours.*

*Don’t bring your kid’s dollar store plastic hoop! If you don’t have your own fitness hoop do use one of Dovercourt’s. They’re larger and heavier … made especially for grown-ups who have fond memories of hula hooping as eight-year olds. ;)

So who’s with me? Turtlehead? BeachMama? Miss Vicky? Veg? I promise it will be fun!

If it wasn’t for my Birthday being tomorrow, I would so be there. I was all excited at first but then saw the date and realized I would be sitting down to the family Birthday dinner right about that time. Perhaps I will get to next time, I know you will have loads of fun.

Really? Happy birthday BeachMama! I’ll think of you eating cake while I sweat my face off.

Porter, photo taking during hooping class must be strictly verboten. I don’t want to end up on someone’s Facebook page, or used as an example re: what NOT to do while hooping. ;)

Oh, if I was in Ottawa, I would SO be there. I love hula-hooping more than anyone over the age of 12 ought to. I actually bought one for myself this summer. I was not at all a sporty kid, but the one thing I loved doing in gym class was hula-hooping. Have fun!

Well, I’ve been thinking about it all day long and I just can’t talk myself into an evening filled with that kind of humiliation! I figure I will let you test it out first, and if it is fun, and not too hard, and you don’t wake up with dislocated hips, and there are NO PHOTOS…then I will not be such a wuss next time :).

Lynn you MUST COME. If I am humiliating myself you must too.

I’ve done it before. It’s a hoot. You can’t hula hoop and NOT have fun. It is physically impossible. So come!

I have to pass this time ’round (get it!?). Hubby is leaving on Sat for a biz trip so that would have been a nice way to destress before dealing with the kids on my own for the next little while.
