The greenest tea you’ll ever see

… isn’t tea at all.

I’m experimenting with moss transplanting. This is my first stab at it:

I might try to kick start my own batch. Did you know that you can whirl up moss in a blender along with some buttermilk and then spread the mixture onto whatever surface you want to become mossy?

Although Sarah’s official birthday isn’t until the 11th we are hosting a party for her tonight. I’m getting ready today and am starting to freak out a bit. The cake broke coming out of the pan last night (BOTH layers!) and there is much I need to do to get ready. Why do I always get so stressed about it? It’s just hot dogs and veggies for cryin’ out loud.

ETA: Help! I have a question!

I bought a bag of hard plastic (not foam) hair curlers at ValVill yesterday. I’m soaking them in hot soapy water (and a second soak with bleach!) right now. Parents: would you be grossed out if I put a few of them in your child’s hair during a pyjama party?

no way! put those hair curlers on the girls. You’re cleaning them now, I dont’ see a problem with this at all.

Yes! It’s foam and I’m sure there’s stuff that will never come off that’s stuck on all the crevices of the foam. The curlers may look clean but I would be grossed out. Of course, I’m picky about those things.

Veg: To clarify, they’re not foam, just hard plastic with an elastic. (I wouldn’t have bought foam ones!) Would you still feel the same way?

If you check out soulemama.com today it looks like they had an art party recenetly, and the “loot” were personalized aprons – very cute!

Ignorance is bliss — but I wouldn’t put them in my own hair. Take what you will from that!

(Buttermilk and moss? Ick. Don’t leave that lying around in case the girls think it’s a smoothie!!)

I just rinsed and dried them. I have to say they look very new. And if it’s any consolation, there was nary a hair in the bunch! ;)

I did curlers last year for my daughter’s 9th bday-they loved it! I am not the least bit grossed out by second hand curlers. What germs on there could be bad for your hair? NONE. I see sets at the St. Vincent’s all the time. Have fun! Hannah’s bday is next weekend-better get it together!

Throw the curlers in a pot of boiling water for 5 or 10 minutes. That should take care of anything.

A drop of bleach, borax, or peroxide would work as a disinfectant – soapy water may not be enough. Make sure they’re very dry too, as things like moist places to grow (like moss). If you’re not like us, keeping Barbicide around, that’s what I’d do. Because I’m like I am, I would mention that it’s not so much lice or cooties that you need to worry about as much as scalp fungi (funguses?). My dad has some, which is how I know they exist. But as long as you’ve got something germicidal After all – when you go to a salon, do they use a new brush or comb or scissors for every person?

And now they’re bleached! And rinsed. And rinsed again.
I think we are safe from everything.

I’m weighing in late (party is already over!) but YES go for it…..please! I wouldn’t be grossed out at all (if they were bleached). We all lay our heads on hotel room pillows people….or maybe not????!!!!! I find adult used clothing more difficult to wrap my head around and many many people wear ‘vintage’ clothing.
PS-love the moss in the cup, wonder if it will grow in low lighting in the girls rooms? also LOVE your mushrooms…so cute. had no idea about the blender/buttermilk…cool.

Lolol…sorry but I’m giggling at the moss. Here on the BC coast, moss is EVERYWHERE. It grows on our fence, in our lawn, on the sidewalk……

Side effect of all the rain I guess. :P
