Can you Fit-in 15? (Now updated with prize info!)
Posted by andrea tomkins in: Giveaways and product reviews|Yaktivism
Yesterday I received an email from the Canadian Chiropractic Association (CCA) that I thought was interesting enough to post about here.
The CCA is hosting a blogger challenge to encourage active living and promote the CCA’s new web site.
The Fit-in 15 website features simple, no-cost, no-equipment ideas for creating your own 15 minutes of focused activity. A password-protected activity calendar lets users record their progress and sign up for the motivational email program to help stay on track.
CCA has asked a select bunch of bloggers to undertake 15 minutes of physical activity every day for one week. During that week, participants are supposed to chart their progress and share their personal “Fit-in 15” story online, however they so choose. At the end of the week, a panel of judges will review the entries and select three bloggers who managed to craft the best “Fit-in 15” story. Three grand prize winners will each receive an iPod Touch 16GB and a $20 iTunes gift card.
Apparently research shows that 90% of Canadians want to be more physically active, but cite lack of time as a main deterrent.
The emphasis of this campaign is not on dramatic transformation, but is to encourage people to start small and simply begin forming the habit of being active every day. I think this is entirely doable. I went out this morning for a 15-minute powerwalk and I was amazed at how easy it was. Why didn’t I think of this before?
The challenge starts today, Wednesday June 17, 2009. I’m going to be updating my progress on a separate page and tracking it there every day.
What about you? Can you squeeze in 15 minutes a day (starting today!) for the seven days?
There is a prize for Fishbowl readers who are interested in playing along.
Make the pledge in the comments below to do your own 15 minutes every day (for seven days!) and you can win an iPod shuffle as well as a $20 iTunes gift card. (Sweet huh?)
How to started:
- Let me know in the comments below if you’d like to participate and enter the draw. Please note, this is a Canadian-based contest but U.S folks are more than welcome to play along (you just won’t qualify for the prize, sorry!)
- Visit My Fit-in 15 or Upping My Game for practical tips on staying motivated.
- I’d love it if you tracked your progress on your own blog if you have one. Let’s inspire other people to fit in some fitness into their daily routines! (ETA: this is not a requirement!)
- Remember it has to be 15 minutes every day! Anything goes: gardening, walking the dog, running after your toddler at the park … etc. It doesn’t have to be 15 minutes on the elliptical trainer! Here’s a tip: do something you LOVE to do. Then it won’t seem like such a chore.
- The challenge officially closes on June 24, 2009 at midnight EST. I’ll do a random draw on June 25th.
Who wants to try this with me?
