Experiment de jour – or should I say – de juice?

We did a big grocery shop at Farm Boy on Merivale Rd. yesterday. I feel compelled to mention the location because it is The Best Grocery Store Ever and everyone should submit to The Farm Boy Experience at least once.
Anyway, yes, I was using a $25.00 gift certificate so I was feeling a little “wild” and bought a couple of special cheeses, strawberry kefir (yummy stuff!) and more things I wouldn’t normally buy…. including oranges. Scratch that, yes, I sometimes buy oranges and it’s not a big deal, although for the past few years I can’t seem to find really juicy ones anymore. I hate buying a dozen oranges only to find they taste like corrugated cardboard.
This time I bought a dozen oranges just for juicing. We’ve never done this before, and dammit, I thought it was high time for the girls to learn where juice comes from. So today we put the oranges to the test. It wasn’t disappointing. The oranges were juicy, although I think the girls thought we’d end up with the equivalent of a two-litre carton of Tropicana. They were wrong, or course. But a funny thing happened at the end of it. Emma forgot about her dislike of pulpy juice.
Apparently our juice was so good it was just like drinking oranges! Ha! Go figure!
This is how much we ended up with, using 9.5 oranges. For the rest of the photos from today please check out my Flickr page.
