Music to sweat by

Posted by andrea tomkins in: Misc. life

My time at the gym yesterday was particularly grueling. It was made worse because I am in desperate need of new tunes for my wee iPod shuffle. Music keeps me going. It inspires me to run faster, pump harder, and push myself farther than I’d normally go. It is amazing what kind of effect it has on me and how much it improves the quality of my workouts.

The last few tracks I’ve purchased (and I can’t believe I’m admitting this) include:

  • Womanizer and Piece of Me by Britney Spears
  • Just Dance by Lady Gaga
  • Hung up (extended) by Madonna

Clubby/dance music really works for me. These kinds of tunes have a higher BPM and help me forget the pain.:) But I need more! Please help me make my fall playlist. What have you got on your music player that makes your heart beat a little faster?

I snagged these from my 8 year old daughter’s playlist, she’s a dancer and they did most of their competitive numbers on these, I use them for workouts and they seem to do the trick , aside from the ones you’ve already mentioned , they are:
1) Boom Boom Pow (and any fast B.E.P. track)
2) Cars (Gary Numan)
3) Toxic (Mme Britney)
4) Poker Face (Lady Gaga)
5) Heart of Glass ( Blondie)
6) We Got The Beat (Gogo’s)
7) Shut up and Drive (Rhianna)
8) Fly on the Wall (Miley Cyrus) …I know…I know!
9) Kids in America (the Cascada version)
10) Jumpin’ Jumpin’ (Destiny’s child)
11) So What? (Pink)
12) Love Today (Mika)
13) 4 minutes (Madonna)
and one that is from my own playlist:
Personal Jesus (Depeche Mode)
Well hopefully this will help a little , have fun with your workout!

Try the PodRunner podcasts by DJ Steve Boyett. Sounds exactly what you are looking for – fresh new clubby/dance music that he puts together. A best of all – it’s free!

Thanks all!

I liked Podrunner for awhile but it feels kind of monotonous to me now. Maybe I just haven’t found a mix I like?

I was about to tell you about the Podrunner podcasts, but I see that someone has beat me to it! They really are great – you can pick the BPM’s that you want! He also has groovelectric, if house music isn’t so much your thing. I LOVE these podcasts! Happy sweating!

Tom Jones’ version of Sex Bomb always gets me smiling while I’m running. Also anything by Femi Kuti. I find a lot of African dance music has just the right rhythm for me.

I still swear by my Cardio Grooves cds I picked up at Costco. There are 3 cds with funky upbeat versions of music from the ’80s and ’90s. I downloaded them to my musicplayer and it gets me moving every time.
