Last call

Rose

When Emma was born her great aunt Joan and great uncle Sam gave her a rose bush. We planted it near the back steps. She adores it, and always has. She has never forgotten that it’s her personal rose bush.

Yesterday, Emma’s rose was the last flower standing. I love this small, bright drop among the sea of brown and grey.

This morning we woke to a silvery frost-covered lawn. And the rose … she’s still hanging on.

Beautiful. It reminds me of the hot peppers currently sticking it out in our backyard.

how lovely.
i want to thank you for inspiring me.
i have always documented the typical events many parents document like birthdays, the first day of school, whatever.
you seem to also ‘record’ the little things in your lives that really mean the most (in my opinion). they are the things that we most often forget yet i think they are the most special things…i want to try harder to ‘stop and smell the roses’ sorry to be cheesy, i’m sick with some type of head cold that clearly is making it impossible for me to think straight!!!!

ooh… I’m not normally a big fan of roses (mostly because they’re all bloom and no foliage) but I have really been noticing the hardy ones still holding on. One even had a brand new bud on it…. madness! How great that your crazy bloomer is so special!
