My latest article at Savvymom is about the Ottawa Green Bin Program. (We’ve been using it since December 1!) I’ve realized that most of our garbage consists of non-recyclable packaging, milk bags, styrofoam trays for meat/takeout, and fruit stickers. It’s crazy how much it has reduced the amount of trash we generate!

We’ve been using ours since mid-December as well! I think it’s great! We have the small bucket right on our counter which makes it easy to scrape off dishes before they go into the dishwasher.
I don’t understand the anti-green bin sentiment that is going on. People say that it smells more, but how does it smell any more than putting scraps in your regular garbage bin?
Use it people! Think of the money you’ll save on buying garbage bags!
