It’s October out there, but it certainly hasn’t exactly felt like it, has it? I, for one, have been in my happy place, weatherwise. I feel so energized! This weather makes me want to go out and DO IT ALL. It’s the perfect time to get outside and catch up on family time! Not too […]

Rediscovering Gatineau (part 2)

Posted by: andrea tomkins In: - Ottawa for kids|Ottawa|travel talk

In my last post, I wrote about MosaiCanada, a free, must-see exhibition that’s going on right now in Gatineau. After tromping around the park and admiring the sights my group continued our tour of Gatineau through the city core.* If you’re from the Ottawa-Gatineau region you already know that many government workers are employed on […]

Last week I was invited on a daylong media tour of Gatineau.* As I packed up my things and drove to our meeting point, I reflected on my relationship with the city that lies across the river from us. I was a first-year student at Carleton and had just turned 19 when I was first […]

To review: every other Tuesday is my day off and I’m trying to use this time to recharge my batteries. No work, no meetings, minimal errands. Last time around I paid a visit to Ritchie’s Feed and Seed and did a bit of gardening. It was our eldest daughter’s last day of school on Monday. […]

You know, in case you’re looking for something to do other than organize closets, do laundry, and shop for school supplies this weekend. :| I urge you to STEP AWAY from the washing machine (wasn’t this the year you were going to get the kids to start doing their own laundry?) and go do something […]

The Obligatory Blurb

My name is Andrea and I live in the Westboro area of Ottawa with my husband Mark and our two daughters Emma (18) and Sarah (16). I am the managing editor of our community newspaper, the Kitchissippi Times. I am a longtime Ottawa blogger, and I've occupied this little corner of the WWW since 1999... which makes me either a total dinosaur or a veteran, I'm not sure which! The Fishbowl is my whiteboard, water cooler, and journal, all rolled into one. I'm passionate about healthy living, arts and culture, family travel, great gear, good food, and sharing the best of Ottawa for families. I also love vegetables, photography, gadgets, and great design.
